Why Produce a Portfolio?
The portfolio provides Evidence of :
• Knowledge
• Understanding
• Training
• Professional skills
• Ability to apply the above elements in the hospital environment
What should it look like?
• Contain all sections listed in the IPEM MarkingTemplate
• Have an ‘easy to follow’ contents page toidentify each section
• Clear and accurate referencing/links to evidence
• Include evidence of academic qualification aswell as top up learning

Evidence• The amount and form of evidence should be relevant to the criteria required
• Relate directly to the importance of the skills/knowledge developed
• Show understanding of competency and evidence of practice

PART 2CASE STUDY 1
Case Studies
• Case studies are required in all areas. Ideally patient focussed but may take the form of an engineering report, an equipment evaluation report or other suitable report.
• Discuss with moderator at all stages
• Must relate to patient care, even if an engineering report(e.g. impact of technology on patient care)
• Minimum of 2 major case studies/project based assignments
• Both major pieces of work: 20‐40 hrs, min 3,500 words total
• Can also provide evidence for multiple competencies
Case Studies / Engineering Reports Include:
• Clinical context
• Underlying scientific/engineering principles
• Relevant legislation, standards and guidelines
• Risk management
• Quality management
• Description/explanation of clinical technology
• Method, procedure or project Plan
• Acquisition and use of data
• Interpretation of results
• A review of impact on patient care
• Conclusion
