1 PowerPoint technique, 4 image techniques

• PowerPoint1. Split long PowerPoint files into several smaller files

• Image1. Crop images to show only relevant area

2. Change images from print resolution to screen resolution

3. Resize images – reduce number of pixels

4. Save as compressed .jpg, .gif or .png

Splitting a PowerPoint file

1. Shift+click to select multiple slides from left pane. – Copy or cut

These four slides are selected

Can now copy or cut them

2. Open a new blank PowerPoint file

3. Click in the left pane, then paste the slides into the left pane

different name – File -> Save As

• Delete out a group of slides to leave the number you want– Use Shift+click in the left pane to select and

delete, or– Use Shift+click in Slide Sorter view (View ->

Slide Sorter) to select and delete

• Save again

Image Technique 1 Crop image

• You may need to change the magnification to view enter image

• Type in a number between 1-100

Open the image in your image editor

• We are using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements

• Most image editors have the same commands

• Choose the crop tool

• Click and drag a rectangle around the area to keep

• Press ENTER key

Image Technique 3 – reduce the number of pixels

• At 100 dpi, for a 6-inch picture on screen I choose width of 600

Check magnification again

• Change to 100 and press ENTER key

Image Technique 4 - Save compressed – as .gif or .jpg

• Choose File -> Save for Web
