What is it? A dialysis line that has an extra (3rd) purple central infusion port

o The red and blue ports with blue caps on the end are for Dialysis Onlyo The purple line is the most distal and can be used as central access for:

IV therapy, medication infusions Blood draws Power injection for CT with contrast media Central venous pressure monitoring (ICU only)

Who will have a Power Trialysis Catheter? The Trialysis catheter will be placed in the ICU bedside by a physician for hemodialysis or

continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) The Power Trialysis catheter is temporary (to be used <30 days) Angio department is not available to place this catheter, it must be placed bedside by a physician

How do you take care of a Power Trialysis Catheter? Dressing & site care to be done by a Dialysis RN, ICU RN or the PICC line team

How do you flush and draw blood from the Power Trialysis Catheter? The blue and red dialysis ports are to be flushed per policy by a Dialysis RN, ICU RN or STAT RN

o Policy #SJMHS-PR-22: Sodium Citrate 4% Flush for Hemodialysis Access Catheters The purple central line port will be flushed and blood drawn per the Central Venous Access policy

o Patient Care Policy # 255 Appendix C – Guideline for Midline & Central Venous Access Devices PCT’s can access the purple central line port for blood draws if they have demonstrated competency

for accessing central lines per their unit policy The blue and red Dialysis ports are to be capped with blue caps The purple central line port is to be capped with a clear Micro Clave cap

Nursing communication regarding the Power Trialysis Catheter? Communication in nurse to nurse shift hand-off Communication to receiving unit when patient is transferred out of ICU if the line is still in place Communication to ancillary units (CT, Angio) receiving patient if central line port will be used

Nursing Documentation of the Power Trialysis Catheter: Charting of Trialysis catheter under Iview Lines/tubes/drains Central Lines Labels identifying the dialysis port and purple central line port will be made available in the ICU and

should be placed on the Trialysis catheter immediately after bedside insertion
