“British Columbia construction industry enters new stage in its business cycle”Keith Sashaw, President, Vancouver Regional , , gConstruction Association” (Journal of Commerce, October 29, 2008)

High Performance BuildingNew Construction

High Performance Building(HPB) Program

• Provides incentives, tools and recognition to help developers and their design teams to design and create better, more energy efficient buildings

• Work with the building industry to influence and change practices technology and behaviors tochange practices, technology and behaviors to adopt energy efficiency solutions – transform the market

HPB ProgramStreams

• Whole Building Design> For developments >50,000ft2 (or energy intense)> Scope includes building envelope, HVAC, and

electrical/lighting> Energy modeling during early design establishes potential

savings and costs relative to baseline construction

• Energy Efficient Lighting Design> For developments >6 000ft2> For developments >6,000ft> Scope limited to lighting> Prescriptive calculation of energy savings

relative to baseline lighting design

• In Suite ENERGY START Package> $150 to $200 per residential suite for Energy Star packages

HPB ProgramWhole Building Design: Incentives

Modeling IncentiveBC Hydro funds 50% of the cost of an energy study or building performance y gy y gmodeling study to assess design alternatives and make business case for HP buildings

Capital IncentiveReduce the incremental capital cost of the energy efficient design– Calculated based on the total of 10 yrs electrical savings and a minimum

electrical savings of 100,000kwh/yr – Lesser of:

1.74 cents/kWh (of electricity savings) X Persistency (0-10years), oramount required to reduce to a 2 year payback

HPB ProgramWhole Building Design: Baseline

Project team (in agreement with BC Hydro) sets baseline based on:

• Legislation> ASHRAE 90.1 2007 for City of Vancouver municipality> ASHRAE 90.1 2004 for the rest of province

A A li bl l i l ti f th j t> Any Applicable legislation for the project

• Current project status

HPB ProgramWhole Building Design: Recognition

Participating projects can:• Leverage the Power Smart brand for marketing

M k ti t l kit ith l i• Marketing tool kit with sample messaging • Listing on the BC Hydro web site• Power Smart Awards• Success story for completed projects • Building Recognition Plaque• Listing in ad in prominent news publicationListing in ad in prominent news publication

HPB ProgramEnergy Efficient Lighting

Modeling IncentiveA $1,000 incentive for creating a lighting design that meets or exceeds ASHRAE/IESNA 90 1 – current code *ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 current code.

Capital IncentiveCapital IncentiveRA capital incentive to install the new lighting. The incentive will be based on the total electrical savings of the energy-efficient design. educe the incremental capital cost of the energy efficient design

* Minimum savings criteria apply.

HPB ProgramMulti Unit Residential Buildings

For mixed use residential buildings: > $150 to $200 per residential suite for Energy Star packages

Incentives Energy Star Package
