Leviton’s surge protection network canextend from service entrance to point of use.Leviton supplies multi-phase and single-phase panelmounted surge protection devices for installation at mainand branch electrical service distribution locations. In addi-tion, Leviton offers point-of-use surge protection devicessuch as hard-wired single, duplex and quad receptacles,six-outlet plug strips, four-outlet plug-in units, local areanetwork and dataline devices, and a power control centerfor computer work stations. Wired-in modules for installa-tion within protected equipment are also available.

This broad selection not only assures that the ideal surgeprotection device is available for virtually any application, but the combined use of these products at multiple loca-tions constitute a “NETWORK APPROACH” to surge sup-pression. As the diagram shows, the first line of defenseagainst incoming surges is the distribution panel-mountsurge protective device. The branch panel-mount surgeprotective devices form the second surge reduction barrier.Point-of-use surge protection devices supply the final lineof protection for individual electronic devices.

Microprocessor equipped electronics are used in justabout all commercial, industrial, institutional andhome environments. Stores are now equipped withscanning devices, electronic cash registers and tele-phone systems. Commercial and industrial facilitieshave numerous computers and peripherals, processcontrollers, office automation equipment and more.Homes contain stereos, TVs, VCRs, FAX machines, personal computers, telephone answering machines, microwaves and other high-cost appliances. All areprime candidates for surge protection devices.

These environments and their associated electronicsrequire surge protection devices because voltagesurges may strike at any time. Surges can disrupt, damage or even destroy electronic components anddata files. Since surge-free electrical power systemsrarely exist, Leviton has developed a complete spec-trum of surge protection devices to meet a widerange of application requirements.
