EDT CASE STUDY Radial bearing retrofits in process-critical locations
Poultry Processor
S626-2RS bearings on the front hook of carts on Meyn Rapid HQ deboner machines were cracking due to impact. There were some occurrences when broken pieces of the bearing fell into the process, and product worth thousands of dollars had to be disposed.
EDT went to the drawing board and designed a Radial Poly-Round® for the application. RPR bearings are stainless steel and polymer plane bearings that have no rolling elements and do not require lubricant. They are unaffected by impact or washdown, and are completely non-corrosive. EDT ZAOE626W directly retrofits the original bearing that rides on a stainless shoulder bolt. Bearings installed August 2014, have run flawlessly and cleanly for more than 6 months; a 1 year lifeis anticipated.
S6200-2RS bearings on Meyn Rapid HQ deboner machines would lose the rubber seals over time. Not being metal detectable, they were not easily retrieved. Without seals, grease washed out, and the bearings would fail.
EDT proposed using stainless ball bearings with 2 metal shields and solid lubricant. The unit is completely metal detectable, and ‘F’ food grade solid lubricant stands up to wash-down and harsh applications. The oil-permeated polymer substrate consistently delivers the right amount of lubrication. With EDT’s 406200FZZ, life expectancy of the bearing went from 2 months to 8 months with NO incidences of bearing-related product contamination.
