The Doctoral ProgramThe University of Latvia is a long-established, state-run university, entitled to award doctoral and postdoctoral degrees and qualifications. The program has been developed and established at the Faculty of Economics and Management. It is based on a three year structured concept of intense seminars and research colloquia, accom-panied by advanced scientific and pedagogical work.

The Doctoral Program focuses on high quality economics and business management research, with a particular reference to applied studies conducted on the basis of advanced empirical methods and research design. For the central European countries the program is administrat-ed by the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tyrol International Business School, on behalf of the University of Latvia.

Academic DegreeThe academic degree “Doctor in Management Science” (Dr. sc. admin) will be awarded by the University of Latvia after successful completion of all exams and program requirements. The academic degree is fully recognized in Austria, Germany and in the entire European Union. Target Group and Career PerspectivesThe main target group of the Doctoral Program are candidates in qualified professional posi-tions, intending to obtain a doctoral degree, based on advanced applied research, opening an academic career as well as opportunities for top executive positions in private, public or semi-public organizations. Following empirical investigations, a doctoral degree still has a sig-nificant positive impact on the career perspec-tives of the successful candidates. The annual launch of the program is subject to an adequate

number of qualified applicants.

Curriculum

Thesis / Dissertation / Promotional Work

For completion of the doctoral thesis 71 CP will be assigned.By „participation with research results presentation at international conferences“ six credit points each can be acquired, assigned by the supervisor.The doctoral students have the opportunity to take part at several conferences in Kufstein and Riga. The 6 credit points each assignable, basically can be obtained by active participation and presentation of research results at other scientific conferences as well.The research results to be presented relate appropriately to the immediate progress of the dissertation.Alternatively, two Credit Points each can be earned for published „Research Papers“ in various academic media or by active par-ticipation with paper presentation at doctoral workshops.

Academic Teaching

For earning the required 16 credits for „Academic Teaching“, appropriate teaching at Universities of Applied Sciences and / or Research Universities can be counted as from the date of the official enrollment at the University of Latvia, Riga. To assist in the acquisition of credit points for „Academic Teaching“ on request of the candidates University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tyrol International Business School will offer teaching opportunities at various universities.
