PROGRAMME INFORMATION HSC8201: The Foundation of Palliative Care (45 credits) This course explores the specialty knowledge that underpins palliative care service delivery. Students will extend their knowledge in relation to the care of the person, family and whanau living with a life limiting illness in the context of the interdisciplinary team. It introduces the relevant theory, research and critical reflection that are deemed essential to palliative care practice. Content includes: > Caring for a person and whanau/family living with a life limiting illness > Theory, research and critical reflection > Palliative care practice > Understanding and caring for self, resilience HSC8202: Praxis in Palliative Care (45 credits) This course develops praxis as the student explores and applies specialty theory, research and reflection in action, to provide evidence-based palliative care. Quality improvement and best practice in the clinical environment will be examined against palliative care philosophy and standards. This course also supports students to examine their contribution to interdisciplinary practice and clinical leadership. Content includes: > Quality improvement > Leadership > Ethics and palliative care > Working in interdisciplinary teams POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN HOSPICE PALLIATIVE CARE Health professionals providing palliative care across a range of settings including aged care, hospital, community or hospice settings, will extend their knowledge and gain a qualification that reflects their specialty practice in this clinically focused programme. Whitireia postgraduate programmes have a flexible learning approach with a mix of block courses and online learning. Distance students receive a full range of support including distance library services and online learning support.
