Listening, Empathy and Healing. Families aren’t just given a place to live. The application process recognizes a family’s hardships and also recognizes the potential for families, with the help of many others, to find a successful path out of poverty. Members of the Habitat For Humanity organization along with volunteers and others in the community, work with the selected partner family to provide financial education, mentorship and support of spirit.  The journey from poverty and/or homelessness, through the build process and culminating with a home and financial responsibility, goes a long way towards personal healing and positive self-esteem. This program breaks the cycle of poverty for many families.

Millard Fuller holds young David Baco at the 2003 dedication of his family’s Habitat house in Cluj, Romania. The Baco house was designated as the 150,000th Habitat house built worldwide.

Through the years, Millard Fuller visited Habitat homeowners and volunteers around the world. Awareness and Persuasion. Habitat For Humanity is a non-profit Christian housing ministry that does not discriminate for any reason. The organization requires families to participate in the building of their own homes and asks that they also volunteer to help build the homes of others. By requiring “sweat equity” of the partner families, Habitat For Humanity persuades through teaching and example.  Conceptualization and Foresight. Habitat For Humanity’s vision statement and mission statement illustrate thought beyond day-to-day reality. They work to solve problems today and anticipate what is needed in the future for more families. Volunteers donate time. Companies donate supplies and/or services. The partner families invest hours of labor for themselves and also donate time to help other families. Stewardship and Commitment to the Growth of People. Habitat for Humanity provides no-interest, no-profit 20-year mortgages for families who are selected to partner in building their own home. Homeowners cannot default on their loans and are encouraged to pay early as the money goes into a fund to help more families. Making this opportunity available to so many families shows a constant commitment to all people and the continued belief in the values of others.  Building Community. Habitat For Humanity International builds community by building communities

“Our Mission: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes,

communities and hope”
