a better society

Influencing Practice Promoting Value Based Growth

The Need

The Solution

! A vibrant and robust social sector is vital to the creation and growth of an equitable society and the reduction in the gross inequalities in our country

! The growth of the social sector is predominantly dependent on its ability to attract, retain and grow desired talent

! Today, however, most entities operating in the social sector are facing a severe resource crunch in terms of talent. With large government driven initiatives such as the National Rural Livelihood Mission and the expected increase in CSR activities by the corporate sector, the demand for professionals in the social sector is likely to witness a quantum jump.

! It has become imperative, therefore, for non profit organisations, corporate CSR teams and other development agencies to harness existing talent, develop a strong second layer, equip them with the knowledge, skill sets and attitude required to significantly enhance their and thereby, their organisation's efficiencies, effectiveness, and growth potential which will result in a quantum jump in their impact on the development sector

Ÿ Enhancing the managerial effectiveness in the social sector as we believe that a talent pool equipped with best in class, contextualised management education and skill sets will chart out newer growth strategies, enhance its execution capabilities, optimally utilise and leverage its resources and creating a robust, vibrant and self sustaining development sector.

Ÿ SPJIMR, through our Centre for Education in the Social Sector (CedSS) presents a unique, 18 month work cum study programme, Post Graduate Certif icate in Development Management (PGCDM) in collaboration with BAIF.

Ÿ Our combined resources, knowledge bases and experiences in the social and management education sectors will be leveraged to deliver a comprehensive, contextual and cutting edge learning experience to participants

Key and unique features of the PGCDM Programme

Ÿ Comprehensive: akin to a typical Executive MBA course, the curriculum is structured to equip the participants with thorough and comprehensive understanding and knowledge of management principles and practices along with application tools required to optimally manage resources and organizations. The curriculum spans : Leadership, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Resource Mobilisation, Program Development & Management, Brand Building, Social Marketing, Communication skills and ICT.

Ÿ Contextual: the course content and delivery is contextualized to the non profit sector, leveraging both, SPJIMR and BAIF's exhaustive and diverse knowledge and experience developed over decades of working with all the stakeholders in the social sector. Domain experts and practitioners from the social sector supplement our in-house faculty, sharing rich, practical experiences and learning.

Ÿ Durability of learning and imbibing through application:

Ø Design: the program has been designed to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the contact sessions (1 week every 2 months over 3 semesters spanning 18 months) is put to practise by the participant in his/her work environment through application exercises, field work and intermediary assignments

Ø Mentoring: to hand hold the participant through this learning journey and beyond, a mentor is nominated by the sponsoring organization

Ÿ Diversity of learning: the participants (key, middle/senior level executives) would include representatives from non profit organisations, corporate CSR teams, government agencies, thereby providing a rich and diverse mix of ideas, understanding of environments and the opportunity to build a peer network

I was looking out for a programme which could sharpen my knowledge about management of NGOs, fund raising, inter personal skills and administration. PGCDM is just the right opportunity. My initial experience has been excellent. The professors have in depth knowledge coupled with practical experience and share their knowledge in a simple manner that people at all levels can easily understand. As the participants are from different places and work profiles, it is a platform to exchange views and experiences.
