Post 11 Centre
Dear Parents/Carers,
If we haven’t had the chance to meet yet; my name is Andrew
Chipchase and I joined the Post 11 Centre at the beginning of
this term and what a quick and fun term this has turned out to
be! From the very first week we have been busy and the
students will continue to work hard until the final day of term to
achieve their goals.
Amongst other things; the centre has had successful reviews
from the Local Authority and from the National Autistic Society. We have started new
courses such as New Horizons and the John Muir Award and the Duke of Edinburgh and
ASDAN programmes will continue. We also still have the Christmas Fayre and the visit to
the pantomime to look forward to.
I have really enjoyed my first few months and look forward to building on the great
relationships that staff and parents have within this vibrant department.
Thank you for your continuing support.
Andrew Chipchase
FRIENDS OF JARROW AUTISTIC CENTRE
As you may be aware, staff, parents/carers/grandparents of the students from Post 11 Centre
formed a charity … Friends of Jarrow Autistic Centre...many years ago which have helped over
the years to raise funds for the benefit of Post 11 students. In the past, the money raised has
helped to fund trips to Thurston, Eurodisney, Kielder, several summer schemes, a minibus and
other trips and events which help students gain independence and develop their social skills.
New volunteers are now desperately needed to ensure that this support group continues. If you
are interested and can help — please get in touch. We would love to hear from you!

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM STAFF AND STUDENTS OF POST 11
ARCHIE DOBSON’S WAR
Following last years successful presentation of Archie Dobson’s War here are
some still photographs taken during the show.
Archie Dobson‘s war is a fictitious story centred around a ten year old Jarrow boy
and his experiences throughout World War 2. The characters in the play were all
played by Post11 students.
Our students spent lots of time and
energy learning lines and songs and their
tremendous efforts produced a very
successful night much appreciated by
all who attended. DVD copies can be
purchased in the new year!
CHILDREN IN NEED
On Friday 13th November 2015, class 2 (including myself) took part in jBay
(Jarrow School’s play on ebay day) for Children in Need, we sold toys and
technology on a two table stall.
We are year 9 students so we had not done this before and we won’t do it again!
jBay was invented to raise money for children less fortunate than ourselves.
As part of the Post 11 unit, we helped raise £262.50! The rest of Post11 paid 50p to
wear non-uniform and were sponsored to do different activities.
Mainstream year 9 ran jBay stalls too.
Eleanor Mellor
Thanks to all who supported this cause and
helped to raise such a tremendous amount of
money for Children in Need!
DUKE OF EDINBURGH
This term our Key stage 4 students began the Duke of Edinburgh programme. The
students are enjoying the challenge of turning an unused polytunnel on school grounds
into a Post-11 garden that we can all enjoy. The students have been working closely with
staff to plan out what they will plant, make, build and change about the space. It is great
to see our students so involved in their work and I am sure parents and carers would be
proud of the effort of each of the young people.
We are beginning our Volunteering unit from January. This will see students creating food
parcels, serving tea and coffee and helping others less fortunate than ourselves at the
Salvation Army in South Shields or at Marsden Lane Health centre. This has only been
made possible due to the support of the KEY project (South Shields) and I know parents
would wish me to extend their thanks for such brilliant support of our students.

ART AND DESIGN
Eleanor Mellor. In art, we have been designing products and their adverts which could be used on TV and made videos of each other pitching our advert ideas on an iPad. On Monday 7th December 2015 we watched each other’s advert pitches, which had been recorded in a previous performing arts les-son on the iPad. Chloe and I had revealed that Chushii (chocolate sushi balls) (Chloe’s idea) and Venus chocolate (my idea) were partners. You see, there is #chushii in my advert and #Venus in Chloe’s advert.
There was also Caribbean punch, blood energy, T-R tea,
WOW soap, magical elves chocolate and tomato soup flavoured soup.
Merry Christmas from Eleanor Mellor.
