A possessive noun is a noun that shows ownership. Possessive nouns always end with an apostrophe and an s.
Add an ’s to a singular noun to make that noun possessive.
To make a plural noun that doesn’t end with an s
possessive, add ’s
To make a plural noun that ends in s possessive, only
add an ’ at the end of the word.
One girl has a pumpkin.
It is the girl’s pumpkin.
Two boys have pumpkins.
They are the boys’ pumpkins.
The children have a basket of apples.
They are the children’s apples.

Possessive NounsRead and rewrite each phrase so that it has a possessive noun. Remember: add ‘s to a singular noun, add ‘ to a plural noun ending in s, and add ‘s to irregular plural nouns not ending in s.

Read each sentence. Identify and circle the possessive noun (who) and underling it’s object (what). Then fill in the boxes.
