ELIZABETH HOWELLART DIRECTION. DESIGN. PHOTOGRAPHY.

'(!0!"#$%"0):

All through the year, Ms. Howell used her talent as a

designer to elevate the work in our office; was a dedicated

employee willing to take charge; collaborated with

students and staff; displayed uncommon leadership for a

student; was able to solve problems on her own; and

was able to get things done with minimal supervision. At

every turn, Ms. Howell’s dedication, talent and work ethic surpassed

my expectations.

Caption writing

"Something to say? Idea-based dominant images are usually center to my designs. With this bulletin flyer for an English conversation course I taught in Germany, I wanted a striking close-up of the baby's mouth to catch passing student's attention."

• Words frame images• Give back story, interpretation, what you were trying to achieve with strategy or visuals.• Donʼt restate the obvious• Proof them well

Putting yourself out there

Print: Books, mini-books, leave behinds

Online: website, blogs, hybrids

For BooksCover, Content, format and binding

Sequencing: beginning, middle, end. The first and last pages are most important.

Contrast: separate similar pieces, ie... strong color next to black and white.

Do thumbnails and slides

Work with a grid: columns, margins, placement of repeating elements

Create logical divisions between work: tabs, folios, paper change

Deal creatively with oversized work

Page 23: Portfolio Seminar
