Patients need a gown that they can wear without feeling exposed or embarrassed.

Doctors need to be able to access the patient easily without disturbing the patient.

Needs are derived from on site research, professional consults and testimonies.

Needs bars represent the level of importance of each need.

Administrators need a better gown that does not exceed the current price range.

Closed Back Front Opening

By creating front opening gown doctors are allowed easier access to the patients. Cables or devices attached to the patient can easily come out the front of the gown instead of feeding them through a sleeve.

The gown pattern was developed to be unobtrusive in terms of the doctors abilities to observe any marks made by bodily fluids while hiding small nicks and tears thus extending the gowns lifespan.

By relating gown colours to their sizes not only are the gowns easier to sort and distribute; the new patient gown requires no tag stating its size. Now patients will no longer be offended by the larger sized gown they are issued.

GE INTERSECTION Repurposing your roadways to produce green energy, GE is changing the way you look at common traffic intersections. By integrating cutting-edge piezoelectricity technology into crosswalks, we have made this intersection fully self sustaining. GE saves your earth and saves your money.

A team project with designers Jovan Popovic and Ian Jaye.

Page 23: Portfolio - Patrick Houin

GE presents a new way to walk across the street. With new piezoelectric charging, we are changing the green movement to blue.

Inspired by a Pothole

Potholes are a major problem on the roads of Detroit. This basis of this proj-ect was origionally inspired by the issues caused by potholes and how they could be reduced, repaired, or reused.

The initial idea for this project was to reuse potholes by filling them with a mechanism to harvest heat energy from the road and the sun.

We decided that filling potholes was rather narrow minded. We decided that finding larger areas of real-estate would be much more efficient, even if we had to dig our own, bigger pot-hole.

potholes are a problem, but can they be reused for good?

Our final direction was to create a new cross-walk using kinetic energy to collect electricity instead of heat and solar energy.

Page 25: Portfolio - Patrick Houin

Charging Cross WalkWalk or drive over this cross walk to produce an electric charge under your feet.

GE blue Romark Reflective Road Marking Tape marks the crosswalk.

A layer of hard rubber is sandwiched in between the tape and the charging panels.

Electrifying IntersectionPiezoelectric panels produces electricity from the movements and vibrations of pedestrians and cars rolling over the cross walk.

Piezoelectric technology

Page 26: Portfolio - Patrick Houin

Lithium BatteriesPiezoelectric charging panels channel energy to lithium ion batteries which then pipe energy to traffic signals, lights and cameras in the intersection.

Piezoelectric ChargingMicroscopic crystals embedded in the charging pads give off an electric charge when agitated. Magnets amplify this and then channel it to batteries.

An Electric RoadCharging pads set under the cross-walk collect energy from the vibrations of pedestrians and traffic moving across.

Page 27: Portfolio - Patrick Houin

All electricity produced by the piezoelectric chargers is piped into the GE Traffic Light, GE Traffic Posts, and GE Traffic Cams.

The first self-sustaining intersection of its kind

G.E. Traffic PostLow energy consuming LED lights clearly illuminate the streets at night. A battery pack in the bottom of the post collects electriciy throughout the day and stores it until dark, where light sensors then trigger the energy to pe piped to the lights. Cones inside the plexiglass encasing direct the light downwards.

G.E. Traffic CamThe G.E. Traffic Cam is powered by electricity piped through the traffic post it is perched on. It keeps an eye on the traffic surrounding the intersection, as well as the people that are commuting through the area. The design features a 360 degree view enabled by its rotating cameras and high elevation in the intersection. It encompasses the benefits of safety and practicality all in one.

G.E. Traffic SignalLow energy consuming LED lights clearly shine at all times of day to safely direct drivers through the intersection. Anti-glare plexiglass is fitted over the lights to allow the signals to function at dim settings and thus consume less energy.

FLYING SQUIRRELS HAVE WEBBING FROM FRONT TO BACK FEET WHICH ALLOWS FOR A LONGER FLIGHT TIME.

FLYING SQUIRRELS DO NOT USE PROPELED FLIGHT LIKE BATS BUT INSTEAD GLIDE LIKE WINGSUITS.

FLYING SQUIRRELS ARE CAPABLE OF TRAVELING 295 FEET.

INCREASED WING AREA LIMITED ELIGIBILITY DUAL USE FOR WORK AND PLAY

WINGSUITS LENGTHEN FREEFALL

A MINIMUM OF 500 SKYDIVES ARE REQUIRED IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR WINGSUIT LESSONS.

LESS THAN 10 WINGSUIT FLYING ACADEMIES IN THE UNITED STATES.

MOST WINGSUIT PILOTS WORK AT SKYDIVE LOCATIONS AS CAMERA CREW, TRAINERS AND/OR TANDEM PILOTS.

SKYDIVERS PAY WINGSUIT PILOTS TO SHOOT VIDEOS OF THEIR JUMPS.

WINGSUITS ALLOW CAMERAMEN TO MOVE BETWEEN JUMPERS QUICKER AND EASIER.

A WINGSUIT PILOT’S FREEFALL CAN LAST UP TO 3 TIMES AS LONG AS A SKYDIVER’S FREEFALL.

MOST WINGSUITS HAVE A GLIDE RATIO AROUND 2.5:1 (2.5 METERS FORWARD FOR EVERY METER YOU DROP).

EASILY TANGELED

FOR SOLO FLIGHT THE LOWER WINGS OF THE CHRONOGLIDE WINGSUIT CAN BE REMOVED GIVING THE PILOT INCREASED MANUVERABILITY IN THE AIR.

FOR TANDEM FLIGHT THE SHOULDER STRAP COVER MAY BE REMOVED REVEALING CLIPS FOR THE SECOND PERSON AND LOWER WING ATACHMENTS MAY BE ADDED TO ACCOUNT FOR THE ADDED WEIGHT OF A SECOND PERSON.
