Multifaceted thinking, clever ideas and a diverse background are my keys to success. Being an artist, an engineer, a designer and a draftsman at the same time provides the foundation that allows me to constantly come up with bold, new ideas and further to realize them as expressive and convincing designs.

At this stage in my career I am broadening my experience and knowledge within the two branches of my recent studies, engineering and design, which build on my architectural background.

I offer an extensive work experience along with recent academic and professional training. I already speak English proficiently. Moreover, in addition to being self-motivated, I work well both as an individual or on a team.

Project Name:URBAN OASIS

Location:Da Baixa St. n6 (Lugo)

Date:June 2015

For this project, I designed a ground floor apartment repurposing the storefront nº6 “Rúa da Baixa” in the city of Lugo, Spain. The inhabitants of this house are a young couple with three children (ages 3, 5 and 7 years old). The project develops an open concept apartment that tries to achieve a strong visual connection between the different rooms of the house through a largely open format. The layout of this house contains:

- Living room. - Dining room. - Kitchen. - Home theater. - Children’s room: day area, night area, office area and bathroom. - Master suite: night area, dressing room, office area and library. - Guests room with bathroom. - Facilities rooms: laundry, restroom, storage rooms.

Additionally, this apartment has a garage and two wide terraces with different areas:

- Outdoor dining room. - Outdoor living room. - Reading area. - Sunbathing area.

To provide privacy to the house from the street, a garden was designed along the border of the terraces, thereby insolating the apartment from the surrounding buildings.

Glass, concrete and wood are the main materials in this loft and provide a natural environment inside the building despite its urban setting.

The idea was to create a clean, contemporary and modern space that merges contemporary Spanish design and Japanese elements so that to the restaurant can be easily identified yet blends with its environment. To honor Japanese culture and tradition, I maintained the balance between clean/simple spaces and a busy restaurant. The base of the design was built on the proportions of tatami (1x2). The motif was applied in several elements to help to create a visual striking space, that provides harmony and balance. For example in the walls that enclose the kitchen and all the windows frames in the facades resemble tatami. The chosen materials respect the Japanese philosophy that balance and nature are the two axes upon which to build. Stone materials represented balance and different woods provided nature. To provide soft light, rice paper diffuses the incoming sunlight coming through the windows to supplement the light produced by lanterns.

The predominant colors are those that come from the materials (concrete, bamboo and walnut). Sun-mark red, the national color in Japan, represents the center of life, eternity and destiny was used as the accent color to contrast with the light bamboo wood and rice paper lanturns.

The restaurant is divided into two separate areas to provide different dining experiences. The dining area is intimate and quiet, while the tea room and shushi bar provide a more social and relaxed environment.

This dental practice was developed on a very tight budget. The clients, recently married dentists, decided to open their own practice that focused on being an inviting and familiar space for patients. The space was only 65 square metres, so space was at a premium. The layout of the ground provided two treatment areas for each dentist, in addition a restroom, a little store, and a rececption/waiting area for patients. Due to the cozy space, storage and medical equipment cleaning areas were on the second floor. A new set of stairs connected the floors. A large exterior window in the reception/waiting area gives the feeling of a bigger space and invites patients into the practice. To provide privacy, the dental treatment rooms have high windows to provide daylight yet eliminate views from the rest of practice or street views.

The restroom and storage areas are isolated by walls to provide discretion.Light colors and clean surfaces were used throughtout the practice. One requirement of the client was to have bamboo in a glass box in the reception area. This box was used for several functions: it provides a wall that hides the stairs and the storage room from the customer area, and it is also serves a bench in the waiting area. The bamboo box gives some color to the neutral and clean space, and it provides a natural element that contrasts to the rest of the materials.

This project was designed as a final project for my civil engineering degree. It is located in the city of Lugo (Spain) and provides both needed parking spaces and a new park in a rapidly developing area.To maximize green space, a park was designed to sit atop a subterranean parking garage. The garage adds 300 parking spaces to surrounding buildings (a museum, auditorium, library, high school, swimming pool and other sports facilities). The 20.000 square meters of new garden space provides a connection between the surrounding structures.

The old industrial complex is replaced with new gardens and a parking garage. This new area works as a connection between the other facilities. The current surface parking lots are moved to the subterranean garage. The garden roof blends the parking garage with the surrounding environment. The paths that run through the new park mimic those in an exhisting musuem garden and provide a logical connection between the spaces.

Structural details

The entire complex is made of reinforced concrete. The floors are made by two-way waffle slabs with recoverable formwork. The foundation is made by a slab due to the low bearing capacity of the ground in this area.

Underground levels

The parking garage structure is two stories and half-submerged. Each floor has 150 parking spaces. A central ramp connects the roof with the two underground floors in a manner that is functional and intuitive.

There are two entry points for cars, one on the roof and another one directly into the lowest level. In the corners of each floor there are restrooms and storage. Four elevators and two stairs supply the exits for pedestrians. Concrete is used throughout for the surfaces finish in floors, walls and ceilings.
