The installation of a decorative grooved stone would allow for a beautiful display of the channeling of rainwater at this speci�c area of the property. A variety of textures could be employed, but all would have the e�ect of highlighting this phenomenon as an architecturally anticipated and resolved issue. A second variation of this solution could employ the rust material of the barn facade, or wood slats.

CLOUD was a conceptual installation completed in my last 4 weeks at Penn State. A canopy was to be placed in a high traffic area of campus, and photographed throughout the day.

The void in the center of the canopy was to be a filter through which social and visual experiences would be captured, but also through which the architecture of Old Maine could be critiqued.

Four anchors, each 200 lb blocks of concrete fitted with PVC to revieve the canopies beams, were poured at the Architecture Building and wheeled down to the installation location on the morning of the event.

The intial selection of location was the Pattee Library, something I view as the heart of a university. This was changed due to graduation tents placed at the original location, and was adjusted to the plaza at Old Main, the largest and oldest structure on the universities campus.

The Built Information Modeling Studio consisted of a five student teams, each with an architect, landscape architect and four architectural engineering students.Our task was to conduct a semester long IPD and BIM design of the Agricultural Engineering Building and North Campus at Penn State. My duties included all landscape design, intense collaboration with the other disciplines, and all production of landscape elements in Rhino and Revit and subsequent post production of all renderings seen opposite.

This conceptual museum design embodies the art of calligraphic forms and gestures made in the practice of Chinese calligraphy. The circle, the solid and the void are distorted to mimick the motion of brush strokes through a volume. Cylindrical voids perforate a cantilevered solid, creating a shifting experience as sunlight crawls along the walls.

The first gesture is the circle, a stroke that passes through the entirety of the void. This complete perforation of the void symbolizes the Earthly element in both traditional Chi-nese culture, as well as the human nature intertwined with the earth. This constant presence is a reminder of the inability of humans to escape their natural and earthly instincts.

Once within this volume, the building relies upon the viewer to discover the abstract effects it creates.

The second gesture is the upward stroke, breaking the plane of the roof and framing the skye, breaking the plane of the roof and framing the skye, breaking the plane of the roof and framing the sk . This unfinished semi-circle is completed by the framed sunlight that moves through the void. This gesture is essential to providing a connection with the museum, the environment, and humans. The pressure of the glass cylinder pressing down on the

viewer directs their path within the museum.

The third and final gesture is the downward stroke, coming to rest in the Qinhai River. This gesture completes the entirety of the buildings connection with earth, sky and water. This cylinder creates the cantilever, and most importantly completes a circle when reflected in the water. This elemental reference creates a strong and unwavering position on

the riverbank, but also connects the visitors within the building under the arch, and those in the museum above.

The concept of calligraphy and the subtleties that exist within each brushstroke was a driving factor behind this museum, and consequently the landscape. This museum will invite viewers to explore, to wait for the suns shadow to advance a little farther, to alight upon a sculpture in the perfect way. This creates an experience, a dialogue between the

building and the human that is translated from elemental principles, and thus creates a dialogue between human and nature.
