Portfolio English Levels V and VI The new focus of the portfolio is on the student’s reflection on the effort and progress that he or she has made in the English program at UTB. Each course will be assigned a learning journal, which is a series of questions about the course and practice habits. Since English 5 and 6 are both focused on reading and writing, the portfolio is a collection of responses to different media in English, one of which should be completed every 2 weeks. The students should read or watch something in English and then write a response to it. The media in English that a teacher can choose from are: Movies / Videos TV shows Songs Academic articles Articles about current affairs Poems Book chapters Conferences Classes/seminars Discussion groups (like the English Café) Some possible questions they might answer in a response to a song in English are: 1. What is the song about? 2. Why do I like it? 3. What does the song remind me of? 4. What are some words that I learned from the song? 5. How would I use the English I learned from this song in my life? Some possible questions they might answer in response to a conference presentation are: 1. What was the presentation about? 2. What did I learn from the presentation? 3. Were there any words or phrases that I didn’t understand? 4. How could I learn more about this topic?

Portfolio English Levels V and VI

The new focus of the portfolio is on the student’s reflection on the effort and progress that he or she has made in the English program at UTB. Each course will be assigned a learning journal, which is a series of questions about the course and practice habits. Since English 5 and 6 are both focused on reading and writing, the portfolio is a collection of responses to different media in English, one of which should be completed every 2 weeks. The students should read or watch something in English and then write a response to it. The media in English that a teacher can choose from are:

● Movies / Videos● TV shows● Songs● Academic articles● Articles about current affairs● Poems● Book chapters● Conferences● Classes/seminars● Discussion groups (like the English Café)

Some possible questions they might answer in a response to a song in English are:1. What is the song about?2. Why do I like it? 3. What does the song remind me of?4. What are some words that I learned from the song?5. How would I use the English I learned from this song in my life?

Some possible questions they might answer in response to a conference presentation are:1. What was the presentation about?2. What did I learn from the presentation?3. Were there any words or phrases that I didn’t understand?4. How could I learn more about this topic?

The responses should be at least a 6 sentence paragraph in length. The teacher should assign the specific media that they expect in the portfolio from the options listed above. The dates for the responses are listed below.

Response 4: Week of April 11th

Response 5: Week of May 2nd

Response 6: Week of May 16th
