You have stumbled upon my personal portfolio. This booklet shows a selection of my work, combining educational, personal and professional projects. As will be clearly visible, my interests and experience as a designer cover a wide range of product types and contexts. A good summary would be that I have great affinity with brands, technology and consumer behaviour, but especially the transformation of these variables into attractive and useful products and concepts.
I have a real passion for creating things that contribute in any way and have been thinking about solutions for common and less common problems since quite a young age. My current experience both as a student and professional designer helped gaining knowledge and tools to develop and express this passion. As a designer I like to take the lead whenever necessary, have an eye for details and gladly dive into all contexts and disciplines that come into play when designing products.
The one project is explained more elaborately than the other. Products must speak for themselves, therefore this portfolio contains as little words as possible. Naturally, more information about the content of this booklet is available on request.

V A CAgeing is is a fact that we all have to deal with. Research has shown that an increasing amount of elderly people that need supporting care creates a shortage in the care sector. A large concern for many elderly people is to gradually lose their ability to live independently due to a decreasing physical condition. Smart technology makes it possible for these people to postpone a life full of dependency on others and keep control.
For many, vacuum cleaning can seem just another annoying household chore, but can offer a welcome routine for elderly people to contribute to their physical and mental fitness. Vac is a semi-robotic device that makes vacuum cleaning easier for the physically challenged by being electrically propelled and automatically avoiding obstacles.

WATCHWRISTThis watch was designed in 2008 for the young professional commuter. In addition to the time, it tells its owner how to travel from one place to another, supported by all traveling information required. The slith in the clockwork allows it to be worn as a normal wristwatch by sliding it on a wristband, or using it without a band by sliding it on the sleeve or pocket of a suit.

Title
In contemporary society many people trade their real life social contacts for relations that are maintained virtually using for instance social media platforms. Especially for juveniles, that grow up in between all these developments, it is important to be encouraged to live a non virtual social life, especially concerning physical exercise. To accomplish this, a playground was developed that enables it's users to play any desired game in an interactive way by displaying field lines or other figures on demand. The modular system is built up from tiles provided with a full colour LED grid and touch technology and is powered by built-in solar cells.

iNRThis project comprises the embodiment and visualization of a new gas valve concept for EBM Papst, innovator in the fan & motor and recently gasvalve industry. The process started with an idea that only existed in the head of the client and some simple doodles. The objective was to embody the idea into more concrete and realistic product concept for internal and external communication. This has resulted in presentable section views, sketches and in a later stage product renderings.

ATOOLTOTEACHTeaching young scholars with a developmental or behavioural disturbance, like ADHD or autism, can be a big challenge. To study this problem, cooking lessons on a special secondary school were used as a subject. The challenge in this project was to enable the teacher to transfer information in such a way that each student, with each a different personality and demand, is able to understand and prepared to receive information. The current system of teaching cooking lessons consisted of a simple piece of paper with a recipe. For many children, this leads to misinterpretations or loss of interest.
The project started by analyzing developmental disturbances in general, followed by a visit to a school to observe the students' behavior and the environment in which they are taught. The information gained from this analysis was used to create personas and scenarios to represent the students, their environment and actions. The result is an interactive digital user-interface that offers personalized information to each student. The interface and information were designed in such a way that wrong interpretation is minimized and understanding and fun is maximized.

R O Y A L V K BL I G H T T R A YLight Tray is one of multiple product concepts that were developed as part of a “brand stretch” exploration at kitchen and homeware brand Royal VKB. This project aimed on finding promising new product categories for Royal VKB to enter and an accompanying strategy to accomplish this.
Part of the research was amongst others an extensive internal and external brand analysis, a market opportunity exploration and a literature study to understand brand stretching theory and guide the process.
Due to its confidentiality only a small part of this project is displayed. More details about my role in this process are available on request.

CLASSROOMLABELINGSBO De Catamaran is a special primary school in Emmen (NL). The school’s new building was finished in 2013. In this project, window stickering was developed to distinguish one classroom from another and offer some privacy. The stickering was designed to look playful and fit each room’s theme while respecting the modern and minimalistic appearance of the building.
