Taxi Talk

This was a typographic experiment i tried in the fi rst year at the university of the creative arts. The theme of my project was on conversations in a taxi.

This project later linked to another interactive piece i designed using adobe fl ash cs4. The interactive piece featured three diff erent taxi meters (buttons) which would link to the related taxi.

Once pressed, a fully illustrated interior of a taxi would appear with some interactive features like clicking on the driver, the driver would respond “Where to love”. If the user clicked on the radio, music would play from their local stations. I chose three diff erent taxis from three diff erent locations. Taxis from the U.K., London, taxis from the U.S. New York, and Tuk Tuks from Thailand Phuket.

In the second year, we were given a task from a design agency in in central London. The task involved us creating a viral campaign for small business to take part in the ‘My Ten Days’ challenge. The idea above is a viral ticket which would go to all small business all around London through a viral email, once clicked on would link to the ‘My Ten Days’ site. It was also a printable ticket, used as entry to a free live event planned in hyde park.

The idea also expanded to a few new features on their site e.g. a entertainment section, with stand up comedy, games, videos, music videos and interviews.

The term democracy first appeared in ancient Greek political and philosophical thought. The philosopher Plato contrasted democracy, the system of "rule by the governed", with the alternative systems of monarchy (rule by one individual), oligarchy (rule by a small élite class) and timocracy. Although Athenian democracy is today considered by many to have been a form of direct democracy, originally it had two distinguishing features: firstly the allotment (selection by lot) of ordinary citizens to government offices and courts, and secondarily the assembly of all the citizens. All the male Athenian citizens were eligible to speak and vote in the Assembly, which set the laws of the city-state, citizenship was not granted to women, or slaves. Of the 250,000 inhabitants only some 30,000 on average were citizens. Of those 30,000 perhaps 5,000 might regularly attend one or more meetings of the popular Assembly. Most of the officers and magistrates of Athenian government were allotted; only the generals and a few other officers were elected.

‘Triggons undercover operation’

This project was originally a task to create our own typeface. The process started on grid paper and later moved onto digital using an Adobe Indesign CS4 grid system, i was able to work up and build onto of the final product.

The second task was to create a book using the typeface we created as the main font for the title. This helped me gain an eye for detail.

‘Fuze’

This was another project given to us during the second year by a repected food writer ‘Sybil Kapoor’. The task was to brand an ice cream selection she was to release and design the packaging cover for her ice cream. This project was really interesting as packaging design was new to me.

After completing the design for the different ice cream tubs, we then created the advert for it.

‘THREEDOM’During the second year of university i was given the oppurtunity to work with four colleagues from my class to come up with theme for a brief and answer it together.

We created a blog for all of us to stay in touch and upload anything we found interesting, photography and video of experimentations and our group getting to know eachother.

The theme for our brief was “Does the punishment fit the crime”. We done the research online, went to police stations to gather more information and one member in our group actually knew someone in prison.

From all this information we created info-graphics on official results on crimes, how we felt we worked day to day, we created evidence bags to show what we collected and tagged the date and time onto each bag. We also made indivisual recordings like they would in an interegation room to comment on how we have performed overall in the project, what we had learnt and what we would change.

For the final hand in, we created an evidence box to put everything in to an we also finished it off with a court performance presentation reflecting on the information we collected.

‘Kent Yards’

Towards the end of the fi rst year at UCA, we were given the oppurtunity to make our own brief.

I chose packaging as i felt it was something i needed to practice more and experiment with more. As we were allowed to make up the client and the form, i chose to create packaging for a wine company called ‘Kent Yards’. A Brazilian wine that comes in white, red and rose red.

The task was quite challenging as from my research i noticed that other wine companies don’t really add alot of illustration or photography, the majority of the time is just logo and text.

‘Bollywood Dancer Magazine’

For my Final Major Project at UCA, i created a fully functioning interactive magazine for the Apple iPad. The theme was on Bollywood Dancing, the origins, different types of dances, real interviews with dancers, the music, the fashion and accessories and also the health benifits. The target audience is mainly bollywood dancers and anyone interested in starting bollywood.

This is an advert i created for the interactive magazine, its a local dance school which opened up quite recently. The logo i redesigned using Adobe photoshop and cinema 4d. I also created a button which played a sample of the current track the school is dancing to so that people can get an idea of the music they dance too.

This is an advert i created for my friends Henna design business, also feature in the interactive magazine. The photography was taken using the 135mm F2.8 L Lens from a Canon eos 60D. This advert features a three minute video on the process from start to fi nish on both hands.

‘The Creative Lounge’While working at the Creative Lounge, i managed to help layout and design the front cover and some of the pages inside a brochure for ‘AFTERS’, a dessert lounge. This was originally featured in the interactive magazine, but had to be taken out in the end as i didn’t have permission to use this design from the owner.

‘The Creative Lounge’Another task given to me was to design a website for a company called Craoli, which specialise in franchising businesses. I experienced the whole process of web design, from the research and sketching layouts stages, to full page designs. I learn’t about the importance of type setting and layouts.

‘The Creative Lounge’This is another web design project i was apart of for a company called Black Code, whom specialises in vehiche re-mapping. I helped out with the layout adjustments, the creative cropping on the buttons. This company also wanted an A5 flyer to advertise their company in garages and local stores, which i designed.

‘The Creative Lounge’Another task given to me was to design a website for a company called Tim Wood Osteopathy, i created the entire front page using Adobe Illustrator and photoshop CS5. I learnt how to extend a photography which is how i created the banner on the top half of the page, i also created 3d slices for the about, how and what information boxes. I also done some type setting on some of the other pages and image editing.

‘MEC Solutions’My first real client was MEC Solutions, owned by Aji Marcose, he specialises in plumbing electrical and housing development. The photography was taken at several locations to be put on the site all shot and edited by myself and my colleague Dean Edwards. The client wanted a friend to come up with the content to code the site, as he could get a better deal.

‘Friends of Kerala’Friends of Kerala is a website that features information about the culture, communties, functions and talent from Kerala. The client wanted me to design a logo for them without going for the obvious look e.g. an elephant.

On the next page i created a few variations of the logo on the right, adding colour, changing the size.

I then came up with a totally different idea on the following page showing a silloutte of a woman praying, i also created a web banner to show how it would work on a website.
