    Curriculum Vitae

My name is Dionisis Klavdianos and I was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1982. In 2000, I studied

Product and Systems Design Engineering at the University of the Aegean and graduated in 2008.

The Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering is located in Hermoupolis, at Syrosisland. It is the rst design oriented engineering degree in Greece. The subject of my diploma thesis

was: Ergonomic design of drivers and co-drivers posts for a city three wheeled vehicle.

During the course of my studies I did a number of interships. 1. In july - August 2005 I joined a team of

students and worked at Kelyphos Aqua lab. That short period workshop gave me the chance to work

in the design of plexiglas aquariums. The construction of the aquariums familiarized me with vaccum

forming technics and stainless steel machining. 2. In the same year, I joined BIC - Violex Shavers

R&D for a 3 months placement.Among other responsibilities, I was assigned to design blisters and

shavers handles following ergonomic design guidelines. 3. During the elaboration of my diploma the-

sis in cooperation with the Ergonomics Unit - School of Mechanical Engineering at the National Tech-

nical University of Athens (NTUA). I worked with Nikolao Marmara (Professor of Ergonomics, NTUA)and Dimitri Nathanael (Lecturer of Ergonomics, NTUA) on projects such as Ergonomic intervention

in drivers cabin of the Athens Tramway and Ergonomic intervention and subsequent re-design of

    Vodafone shops furniture.

After my graduation in 2008 I started my professional career either as an employee or as a free-

lancer. In 2009 I was employed by E2A, which is located at Larissa, as an industrial design engineer

in charge of the design and contruction of metalic tiers and journalistic booths for football courts in

Greece. The same year I became member of the Hellenic Ergonomics Society. The next year I moved

to my hometown and joined the design atelier of Prolgroup. Prolgroup is activated in Advertising,

Communication and Marketing. My core responsibilities were Exhibition Design and Construction. In

2011 after having aquired technical knowledge in exhibition design and enriched my experience in

the eld I decided to cooperate with the Designer and owner of the design studio, Giannis Kalogianni-dis and run it jointly. Space and Product design is the elds that we are activated. Few examples of

our work consist of construction of furniture, lighting xtures, space dividers and applied arts.

Apart from its practical aim the thesis is exploring theutility of formal design theories and more particularly

of Axiomatic design by applying it in the contextof Ergonomics Design. The mechanical engineeringdesign of the vehicle was developed in the schoolof Mechanical engineering of the National TechnicalUniversity of Athens. In addition I designed the func-tional morphology, the outer shell and the styling, based on antropometric senarios of use as well asbiomechanics. Apart from the aesthetic effort wasgiven to the design construction of the frame, thesteering and the the suspension system.

Wing waiting seat has been designed for frequented placessuch as airports, train stations and subway. At the same time itcan be transformed, with an addition of pillows, into a waitingseat system ideal for spaces where there is greater need forcomfort such as in ofce buildings, hospitals and public ser-

    vices.

Design of wing was based on the simplicity of production. Morespecically the same module forms the seat or the back de-pending on the direction of its instalation and therefore wehave in addition an economical efcient production. This designsolution besides the construction / cost benets, it also produc-es an interesting aesthetic result departing from the minimizingof absolute symetry by adopting a more organic form, thusgiving a sence of motion.

Wing waiting seat system can be xed either on the oor or on the wall xation. This provides allthe needed exibility for all kind and size of spaces.

The arms are symmetrical with variable cross-sections which are wider at the supporting elbow areain order to provide enough space for two persons sitting next to each other. Their direction of thearms is frontal so that when leaving the seat no object can be hooked on, such as bags coats etc.The traverse is xed under 57.5 degrees on its transversal axis which is stabilized by the legs geom-etry. This solution leads to a seat and back inclination of 5 and 110 degrees respectively providinga comfort ungle between the body and the thighs. The sockets of back, seat and arms are xed onthe traverse.

All the components are made in aluminium using injection molding procedure. The pillows are foamand coated with leather or fabric and the arms are covered with rubber with leather texture for

    better sence while holding.

    Pocket Ride / bicycle bag

Pocket ride is a bicycle bag especially designed for retro bicycles with hori-zontal top tube or with a medium slope. Its made of awning fabric whichprovides waterproofness and stiffness to the shape of the bag. Its made ofa single piece of fabric 150cm by 50 cm which with the appropriate stichingcreates a 34x30x8 cm bag with two pockets.

Ergonomic intervention in drivers cabin of the Athens Tramway. The interven-tion included eld observations, video analysis, participatory design sessions, 3Dmodeling of cabin and driver and re-design of seating and traction controls toimprove drivers body support and reduce left arm strain during driving.

Tram drivers driving posture analysis using ManeQuinn Pro. The use of manequinns of the evaluating percentilesprovided biomechanics data that led to the recognition of the specic cabin features that had to be redesigned.

Form & Function Design Studio / Shoes Selves (under construction)Freelance project, 2012

Shoes department space design for fe-nafresh shop. The concept originated fromcontour lines on maps. The construction ofthe selves is a three steps process. The coreof the selves is made of EPS which is cut incurves using hot-knife. The EPS is wrappedin berglass mat and then coated with in-sulating concrete providing enough robust-

ness to support the weight of the shoes andmore.

Step 1: cutting EPS sheets using hot knife Step 2: Wraping cut EPS sheets in ber-glass mat

Step 3: Coating with insulation concrete Step 4: Finishing with a sparse mix ofconcrete and water.

EpilogueMy studies in Engineering Design as well as my professional experience offered me opportu-

nities to work on projects concerning everyday life demands. I have always been interested

in the study of human experience, transportation and ecology, and I believe that I have de-

veloped the relevant technical and analytical skills in order to handle fair amount of designchallenges in a professional manner. I believe in perspicacity, intuition along with method-

ology and hard work. Succeeding in applying for this position would give me the ability to

advance my theoretical knowledge, my technical and craftmanship skills and consequently

the excellence level of my work.
