ProcessI started by going through the text and organizing it to insure proximity asIdevelopedtheflier.Ithensketchedoutseveralideasofhowtosetupthebasicstructurefortheflier.

WhenIgotthecomputerIfirstputeverythingthatIwouldneedontheflierontothepagesoIcouldstartplacingthingswheretheywouldneedtogo.Thismadememoreawareofspaceandhowthingscametogether.Byrearrangingthings,thefinalcopydevelopedaroundthemessageoftheflier.

BrochureDescriptionA brochure that helps teach better running form in 7 easy steps that coordinatewithseparatepartsofthebody.

Objectives• Setupandalignatwo-sided,foldeddocument.• Create and use an original company logo.• Incorporatefourqualityimages.CliponeinPhotoshopandtext-

wrappedinInDesign• Write250pluswordsoforiginalcopywithparagraphs.• Trim for a full bleed, print, and fold.

ProcessIstartedthisprojectbywritingthebodycopy.

I then created a logo that is also the title to the brochure. I made this using type and alignment, including some vertical alignment.

IthenfoundallofthepicturesandpickedoutwhichoneIwantedtoclipformytextwrap.Ithenclippedthepicture.

NextIsetupmyInDesigndocumentintoanew-cutlayoutandinsertedmy pictures, logo, and text.

I arranged everything and broke up the text into its separate pieces and added the numbering along the edges.

ProcessI started this project by taking pictures of my model outside of a brick building.Iwantedtocreateamontagethathadlotsofenergyandemotion but also really described the model.

Ibeganbycroppingthepicturedowntopullherincloser.Iflippedtheimage horizontally to redirect motion.

ForthesecondimageIdecidedonalongpearlnecklacethatwouldlooparoundherandframetheimageinbutwouldalsoaddtotheenergyandflowoftheproject.

IcopiedthepearlssoIcouldcontrolwheretheloopsledto.Idroppedtheopacitywhilepositioningthemandthenbroughtthembackandhand masked them out again.

NextIaddedthefilter.Ichosewatercolorbecauseitmatchedtheoverall feel and the pearls the best.

Idecidedtohavethetitlebehernamewithsomeoftheletterstolookliketheyhadbeenknockedout-of-placebyherhandsinherenthusiasm.Iplacedthisfirstandrealizedthattherestillwaslotsofroomtocarefullyaddtextsthatwouldadddepthwithoutstealingallmywhitespace.GoingalongwiththebrickIdecidedtoaddgraffiti-liketypeinthesameelegantfont.ForthesewordsIaskedpeoplewhoknowhertodescribeherandusedthosewords.TheseIarrangedtofitamong the bricks in clumps.

LogosDescriptionThree different logo choices for Moser Transportation Inc.

Objectives• Createavarietyoflogostofitacompanyorpersonalimage(at

least3newlogos).• Don’t imitate logos or use your previous designs.• Use only the tools of Illustrator. (No photos)• Setting up a professional display for the company. • Getting feedback from outside sources. List the results.

ProcessResearch: They requested that the transportation part of the business be minimized in the logo. We also had students from SSJH create samples forpossiblelogosandtohavetheownerslookatmanydifferentstyles.

First:Istartedwiththeblackoutlinearoundthe“M”andthenworkedwiththetypography.IfoundthescriptfontIusedcreatedbetterflowinto the rest of the logo. I added contrast in size and aligned the rest of thetext.Ifinisheditbycreatingagradientlayercircleunderthefirst.

Second:Iwantedtogivethemabackandwhiteoptionthatwasalittlebitsimpler.ForthisIusedtypographyandlines.Iplaced“Moser”overtransportationanddrewalinebetweenthetwo.Ithenaligned“Moser”totheleftofthelineand“Transportation”totheright.Ithencreatedthe other four lines and aligned them to their respective sides. To add more contrast I changed the opacity of the lines so they faded on their wayouttokeepthefocustothecenterandcreateafeelingofmotion.

Third:Acombinationoftheprinciplesoftheothertwologos.Nocurvedlineslikethefirstbutgainedcolorthatwaslackinginthesecond.Moreofatrademarkasitlostthe“Moser”andagainaccentuatedthebold“M”.FormydraftIhadthemmeetthebottombutIshankitforthesecondasitfelttocrowded.TomixitupevenmorefromthefirsttwoIchangedthedirectionofthe“transportation”to run vertically instead.

and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; No parentheses/ hyphens.

ProcessIstartedwithasketchImadeofthefishwhichIscannedandthentracedinIllustratorwiththepentool.Iaddedagradienttotheinsideofthefishtoaddroundness.Ichoosethecolortoemphasistheskyandwaterwherethefishcandwell:companiesdiversity.InthefontsIchosethethickscriptfontfor“flyingfish”andathinsansseriffor“graphicdesign”toaddcontrast.Ikept“graphicdesign”smallandleftaligneditwith“flyingfish”andalignedthebottomofittothebottomedgeofthefishesfin.

I added the 30 degree angle to add interest to the information side of thecardandfilledtheothersidewiththelogo.Iwantedtoaddcontrastso I made the information side of the card black. To keep consistent alignmentIhadthetextrunalongthe30degreeangleaswell.

ProcessIwantedtheletterheadtolookinstnatlyconectedtothebuisnesscardthat I had designed. To do this I placed the logo into the document and the contact information and then added the black bars on either side. To pull the bottom in I also added one at the bottom. I then added thefishwatermarkatthebottom.AfterthegroupcriticIaddedthediagonallineintheheadingtopullthetwopiecestogetherevenmore.

ProcessItookthispictureinthegardensofBYUI.Iwasworkingonusingaperturemoreinmypicturestolessenthedepthoffieldandapplyingbetter composition.

ItookimageIgotofahoseandpulleditintoPhotoshop.Iwantedtomakethehosestandoutmoreandaddafiltertomakeitmoreintriguingtolookat.Istartedbycroppingitdowntoa6X6placedona8.5×11 background.

ThePhotoshopIwasusingisoldersoaftertryingtousetheselectiontools and not getting the desired result I decided to use layers and maskstodesaturatethebackground.Idesaturatedthewholeimageandbrought the color back into the hose and faucet using the mask tool.

ThenIwantedtotrysomedifferentfilterstoIsavedtheimageasisandtookasnapshotofeachfilterIlikedasItriedthemout.Iendedupdecidingonthesmugestickfilterunderartistictogiveitabitofagrainy-oldlook.

ProcessIdownloadedthefileandrenamedit.IthenopenedboththeCSSandtheHTMLinTextWranglerandcombinedthetwo.Ithenopenedmy logo in Photoshop and found my color hex codes and changed all thecolorstomatchmylogo.Ithenwentinandchangedallmytext.Ididn’tlikehowthefontwasaligningwiththerestofthepagesoIseparated it and left aligned it. In the CSS document I used comments tokeeptrackofmyhexcodesandtoorganizeandkeeptrackofwhatthe different elements controlled. Then I screenshot it and formatted it in InDesign to print.

ProcessIfirststartedbylookingattheimagesIhadavailabletometouseanddevelopedmyeventaroundthose.Idecidedona“BakeOff”eventinthe Crossroads on campus promoted by the Chamber of Commerce for the Family Crisis Center. I took that information and the image I used and put them into Word. I used the background remover tool to clean up my photo and used shapes to created the box behind the title. ByusingthegradientandtransparencytoolsIwasabletocreatethefade to soften the box into the image to help prevent tangent lines. I leftalignedeverythingtohelpwithflowandhadtheimagetakeupthemiddle and right thirds of the page.
