Born in 1990, after the art high school diploma, I enrolled myself at Politecnico di Milano, Faculty of Architecture and Building Engineering. During my university studies, I tried to invest my time in the most efficient way, spending a lot of effort in many extracurricular architectural workshops and exchange programs.Furthermore, I worked with a variety of different teams of architects and engineers, with whom I got the opportunity to get more into architecture’s world, developing my professional skills and learning different software. In 2015, right after my degree I got employed at Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter, before as an intern, and right now as an Architect. While here in Oslo, I have been working on different projects, mainly architectural competition and small scale direct commissions. Therefore, I do not only improve my professional skills, but I also develop and move forward my conception of architecture.Maintaining an open and critical approach throughout the design process and having an in-depth understanding of the project’s ambitions are crucial to its success, and it is through these required endeavors that I have grasped both the challenges and complexities of architectural design.Architecture become an open cycle process where the architect is slowly moving forward to the goal. Like a tailor, the architect has to carefully adjust and assemble all the pieces to get the best result: an architecture that looks nice, that is comfortable and that makes us feeling warm. It is a mixture of love, ration and passion. It is like to live.

PRIZES AND AWARDS

In 2007 I participated in my first Architectural Contest.During the summer, my professor from high school (an art school where I studied Architecture & Design) asked me if I wanted to join his team for the Architectural Contest “Central Market in the ex Fornaci Magnetti Area”, near to Milan. Of course, I worked as an architectural drafter helping them drawing and refining plans and facades, and thanks to this I was introduced to the exciting environment of Architectural Competition. And what is more, we received the 3rd Prize! This moment marks a turning point in my life: I had the pleasure of getting to know other architects who liked my work ethic and asked me to join them with future Architectural Contests. From that moment, I started to develop my professional skills, getting to an advanced level in using AutoCad and Photoshop prior and in addition to the launch of 3Ds Max, Illustrator, Indesign, Rhinoceros. Furthermore, I got the opportunity to work with talented teams of architects and engineers who taught me a lot.Since 2010, with two longtime friends of mine, we started to participate Architectural Contests as a team, where we received prizes contributing to the fulfillment found in the architectural field. My passion since has not faded and will never do so.

2011Leading ArchitectMilan, ItalyOpen Competition - Special MentionExhibitions Design150 sqmIn the spirit of Milan’s renovation and improvement EXPO 2015 asked architects to design new spaces to present Italy and its traditions. Therefore, we decided to create a new wine-tasting pavilion in Parco delle Cave, a public park near to Milan. As the competition was promoted by FederLegno (the Italian association for wood producers), the pavilion had to be made by wood. Our proposal is a simple box split in two volumes and opening up to the lake. The wooden skin smoothly opens to the landscape. This project received a Special Mention.Furthermore, and this is the main reason why I am so proud with this project, it got a small publication on Casabella, one of the most important Italian architecture magazines.

This water contains the highest number of minerals in the world. To develop this potential tourist attraction, the small municipality created an open competition to develop a building with thermal baths and homeopathic facilities. For this reason we wanted the building to be a landmark for the valley region. The design does not follow the morphology of the ground. It instead projects out from the mountain with sharp geometry.Above all of it, the roof then becomes a grassy public square intermittent with reflecting pools that serves as a meeting spot for visitors. A small city in a small village.

2014Leading ArchitectMilan, ItalyDesign StudioResidences for artists2 200 sqmIn Milan, in Brera district, we proposed a mixed use building. The bottom part is a fluid volume that lifts itself to let the passersby get into the courtyard behind the buildings. The upper part consists of three blocks of flats. In the attic are found several common facilities, including a dance hall.Above all else was the analysis of the urban context, its textures, its axis and its typologies. In terms of design, lots of attention was paid to the development of the duplex type of flat that is a standard unit throughout the complex. In the inner courtyard a green roof covers an exhibition showcase where the live-in artists can show their works and performances.

2010-11Leading ArchitectNkubu, KenyaDirect commissionPlace of Worship1 300 sqmAfter a period of volunteering at Consolata Hospital in Nkubu, Kenya, I was asked to design a new cemetery for the village. Due to the morphology of the land, with a big slope going down to a small river, the main idea was to create graduating terraces to host the graves. Near to the entrance there are several buildings serving different functions such as a chapel, the janitor’s house, funeral rooms and bathroom facilities. The entire project was designed with cost in mind so as to make it financially possible for the town. The project came close to its realization. Unfortunately due to bureaucratic obstruction it never came to fruition.

2013Leading ArchitectEverywhere - Meant to serve in an Mediterranean climateOpen Competition - Finalist ProjectResidential160 sqmMarlegno srl, an Italian company that works with wooden elements, proposed an open competition to get some ideas about modern and modular prefabricated living units.Even if the majority of the delivered proposal (more than 80), despite the size restrictions of the competition, which states that the units must adhere to standard lorry containers (2.50x3.20x13.00 m), we tried to conceptualize the living unit as an assembly of functional spaces.Finding a slight loophole in the competition guidelines, we created a concept that imagined a variety of volumes serving as different living areas (such as single bedroom, double bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, etc) those are getting connected into a flexible living space, the core of the house. Our proposal forced a re-thinking of the sterile idea of “standard”: we strived rather to create a personalized standard for different users.

2013Leading ArchitectPragueDesign StudioEducation260 000 sqmDuring my ERASMUS period at the Faculty of Architecture in Prague I worked in a design studio with its Dean, prof. Zdenek Zavrel. Here I designed a new prison for Prague, in a degraded suburban quarter. The project can be divided in two parts: the lower, with common facilities and administration, and the upper blocks, with cells for prisoners. The prison wants to be not only simple and cheap but attractive as well: a prison not as a place of repression and punishment, but rather a site of re-education and rehabilitation. It has to be an expression of love.

2015Leading ArchitectSondrio, ItalyDesign StudioEducation6 600 sqmHere I reassume my Master Thesis, ADDITIONS, quoting its abstract.“Additions is a project that wants to be real. It is an authentic and feasible solution for a specified problem. What is presented here, is a proposal for an energy requalification and volumes addition to “Polo di Formazione Professionale”, a high school in Sondrio, Italy. Apart from energy expenditure modification project of the existing building, we developed a coexisting design to increase space for classrooms, laboratories, study lounge and a gym.The energetic requalification is made in a rather standard way. We added an external isolation panels with some extra details that make it more suitable for the energetical and architectural goals. The increase in space is achieved by a new independent simple volume placed on the existing building. It has a glass facade facing South direction, opened to Sondrio’s valley and it goes in relation with the vineyards all around. This thesis arose from two problems, solved with two different solutions. Although initially they appear not to correspond with each other, eventually they became truly connected and after all inseparable”.

2011Leading ArchitectCastelmarte, ItalyOpen Competition - 1st PrizeGreen spaces1 400 sqmIn the small historical center of Castelmarte, in the North of Italy, the municipality sought a design for a requalification of a small public space located on the border of the urban area. The typography of the land was extremely steep and covered in brush and forestry making it difficult to work with. That means a park without sun. What is particularly beautiful is the view of the hilly landscape of the Brianza region. What we created is not a real architectural project but a landscape surgery: the proposal creates different flat spots - green terraces - created by reworking the soil. Next and connected to this, we then took away some of the trees that obstructed the viewpoint from the main terrace.Next to the creation of this green viewpoint we designed a small cafe.

2012Leading ArchitectLegnano, ItalyDesign StudioCulture140 000 sqmDuring the second design studio of my university career, I designed a Cultural Center in Legnano city, near to Milan. As the plot of land was currently hosting a large park, well- liked by the community, emphasis was placed on maintaining the park as an open community space. To achieve this the cultural center (an exhibition place, a theater and a public library) had to go “under the park”.Like a tailor, I cut the ground and pushed down a space to conversely, erect the buildings almost fluidly from the ground. Big volumes on the green roof tops create different kinds of double high spaces in the interior of the public library. Smaller volumes host emergency stair cases.

2015Plans Designer at Reiulf Ramstad ArkitekterOslo, NorwayInvited Competition - 1st PrizeResidences6 500 sqmDuring my staying at Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter, I worked on many projects. The one presented is the project I became the most involved in.Working shoulder to shoulder with Reiulf I learnt a lot. Developing different possible solutions for this residential complex, I understood that the design process could evolve in many opposite directions. All of them have their own advantages and disadvantages. The hard part is to give the right hierarchy and the right priorities to choose the best direction and so to get the best project.Furthermore, I also improved my skills in residential units typology and my approach to urban issues: how much the sun studies are important (especially in a Nordic environment), the concrete relationships in between the building and its surroundings (how can access it? how does it touch the ground? what is happening there?) and how to develop the building mass (what are the right proportions of the volumes? how does the existing urban context affecting this decision?).

Our proposal won the 4th prize.

It was the first time I have been introduced to the world of architecture competitions that till now are intriguing and somehow exciting for me.This collaboration, has opened my way to participate in next architectural contests as it was followed by few invitations to cooperate with different architects’ teams.

In fact, thanks to EXPO 2015, many suburban areas of Milan got renovated. One of these is Porta Garibaldi, in the North-West side of the city. The task was to design a new city hall along the border of a large public park. Our proposal (awarded 14th place among over 400 proposals), was a simple, neutral white box with open views of the park and a diaphragm to the new city’s area.Holes into the pure volume are made to create many openings to the park.
