Introduction

Founded in 1953, Sharpe Mixers manufac-tures a full range of mixing equipment upto 300 horsepower. The Portable and F-Series mixers described in this catalog rep-resent the smallest mixers we build, but inmany ways the most significant. Becausethese mixers are our highest volume line,we have taken great steps to assure that theequipment is of highest quality and presentthe best value as compared to competitivemodels.

This mixer line has been refined andimproved over the years to assure that everycomponent has significant advantages overother mixers on the market. From thenearly indestructible white powder-coatedfinish to the stainless-steel mountingclamp, from the vapor-tight coupling hous-ing to the quality-10 gearing, you can beconfident that your Sharpe Mixer will lookand operate like new after years of duty.

If you ever do need service, the non-propri-etary motors and other parts are immedi-ately available from Sharpe Mixers or yourpreferred local supplier.

From start to finish, it is our goal to pro-vide the highest-quality mixers, promptand dependable service and the best dollarvalue on the market today… and tomor-row.

All Stainless SteelUSDA Approved

Sharpe’s All-Stainless-Steel mixer line repre-sents the ultimate in sanitary mixers withthe greatest resistance to corrosion andcontamination. With no plating or bur-nishing, the all-stainless construction goesabove and beyond the specification for“paint free” equipment. Fully gasketedhousings and a vapor seal where the shaftenters the mixer ensure that no contamina-tion can be caused by the mixer drive itself.Strong SS316L investment castings makeup the mixer housing, gearbox and mount-ing clamp. For use wherever corrosivevapors can attack process equipment orwhere cleanliness is of utmost importance.

F-Series Stainless Mixers

incorporate the same design advan-tages as Sharpe’s Clamp-Mountportable mixers and are available inplate, flange, and ferrule mountingwith various seals.See pages 4 & 5 for cut-away details.

Impellers are available in standard or polished finishes.

Oversize shafts of SS316 mini-mize whip and vibration.

Heavy-duty lip seal below thebearing and coupling preventmoisture and dirt from reachinginternal parts.

Strong investment-cast mount-ing clamp is solid SS316L.Guaranteed for life against breakage

Shaft coupling is sealed inside agasketed nosecone - safe fromcorrosion and possible accidents.

Mixer housing and nosecone isinvestment-cast stainless steel316L for superior durability, cor-rosion resistance and ease ofcleaning.

Stainless-Steel electric motorsoffer wash-down duty in eithersingle-phase or three-phasepower. These premium motorsfeature all stainless constructionincluding end bells and terminalboxes.

Direct Drive Heavy-Duty Portables

Sharpe Mixers direct driveportable mixers provide high-speed mixing for those jobswhere greater shearing action isrequired and for smaller batchmixing. The high speed of theimpellers (1750-rpm) createlocalized high-velocity eddies(high shear) necessary for manyapplications such as dispersingand dissolving dry powders intoa solution.

F-SERIES DIRECTDRIVE MIXERSincorporate the same designadvantages as Sharpe’s directdrive portable mixers and areavailable in plate and flangemounting with various seals.

Standard NEMA 56C framemotors are used to assure "offthe shelf" availability and awider range of motor options.

Shaft Coupling is protectedfrom corrosion, safely locatedinside the sealed housing. Noexposed coupling means a safermixer as well.

Outboard shaft bearing mini-mizes whip and vibration.Brass-tipped stainless setscrewseliminate corrosion and preventmarring the mixer shaft.

A rubber-encapsulated vaporseal protects internal parts.

Oversize 3/4", 1"and 1-1/4"diameter shafts are used formaximum stability & long life.

S.S.316 marine propellers provided standard. Shear discsor other impellers available.

Alloy mixer housings are pow-der coated for maximum dura-bility. Ball & socket mountallows 360º rotation and 90ºvertical adjustments.

Gear Drive Heavy-Duty Portables

Sharpe Mixers gear drive portable mixersare the best choice for larger volume andhigher-viscosity applications. The slowerspeed (350-rpm) provides the high torquenecessary to mix higher viscosity fluidsand the higher flow required in largertanks. Large diameter Hyflo 218 impellersproduce much more flow per horsepowerthan other mixers on the market.

Seal Options

VAPOR SEALSharpe F-Series mixers may be flange mountedon non-pressurized tanks with the Vapor Sealoption. Dual heavy-duty lip seals are installedbehind 1/8”stainless-steel flange facing forsuperior corrosion resistance. Standard ASA 5”-150# series flanges furnished standard. Othersizes available.

LOW PRESSURE STUFFING BOXA simple two-ring stuffing box is available fortank pressures up to 20 P.S.I. Standard ASA 5”-150# flange furnished standard. 1/8” thickSS316 facing and stainless fasteners ensureexcellent corrosion resistance. Various packingstyles available.

HIGH PRESSURE STUFFING BOXThe time-proven 150 psig stuffing box is avail-able with many styles of packing to suit differ-ent processes. Seven rings of packing are sepa-rated with a lantern ring for distributing lubri-cant. The seal body and facing are solid SS316.Spring or weight loaded lubricators are avail-able.

MECHANICAL SEALSFor the ultimate in leak-free protection andminimum maintenance, mechanical seals areavailable in a myriad of designs. Single Inside,Outside and Double Seals, Split Seals, Dry-Running Seals or the seal design preferred atyour plant can be built to meet requirements.Various lubrication reservoirs and other systemsare available.

Side Entering

Side-Entering F-Series Mixers are mostoften used on storage tanks, or when thereis insufficient room to mount a top-enter-ing mixer. The horizontal flow sweeps thetank floor, maintaining suspension over awide range of liquid levels. The compactdesign of the F-Series mixer often requiresno external support, but tie-rods are fur-nished for extra stability.

The standard tank shut-off system allows repack-ing of the stuffing box without draining the tank.Various other seal designs are available.

Mixer Selection Guide

www.sharpemixers.com (800) 237-8815 fax (800) 767-5670

This selection guide and the sizing chartson the opposite page will help determinethe proper mixer for your application.Product viscosity and process requirementsas well as the tank size and shape determinethe best mixer for the application. The optimum tank shape is cylindricalwith a liquid level between one and one-and-a-half times the diameter. Other pro-portions as well as square, rectangular orcone-bottomed tanks can also be used, butmay require special considerations whendesigning the mixer. Discuss these needswith your Sharpe representative.

When the tank height is greater than1.5 x diameter, use two impellers. Theupper impeller should be placed halfwaybetween the bottom impeller and thetop of the liquid. Place the bottomimpeller between one and two diametersoff the tank floor.

ANGULAR OFF-CENTERFor best results with clamp-mount-ed mixers, point the shaft ~10° outfrom vertical and 10°–20° clock-wise from the tank centerline. Thisreduces vortexing and improvestop-to-bottom turnover on tankswithout baffles.

ON CENTER W/BAFFLESOn-center mounting with a fullybaffled tank provides optimumflow patterns for most applica-tions.

ANGLE RISER OFFSETFor larger non-baffled tanks, thedouble-offset Angle Riser mount-ing minimizes vortexing & pro-vides good top to bottom turnover.
