Main functional requirements

• The ferry berth must be functional for the new HSC catamaran

• New Fjord Cat (aluminum catamaran)

• The ferry berth must also be functional as an emergency berth for:

• SuperSpeed 1 & 2 • MS Norröna• MS Bergensfjord

• The above Ro-Ro ferries require a mooring dolphin west of the ferry berth for safe mooring (to be constructed later)

• Water level variations• MHW – MLW: ± 0,80 m (accessibility satisfied for walkways etc.)• HHW – LLW: +1,40 / -1,10 m (limit for traffic on linkspan)

• Berthing of the aluminum catamaran requires a soft fender

• Berthing of the Ro-Ro ferries requires a relative hard fender

• Stand-off distance must be as small as possible ( < 2 m)

• Height of fender panel face: -0.30 m to +5.50 m

• Double contact on the fender panel is not allowed

• The fender panel shall be able to rotate on plan (to accommodate angled berthing to avoid point loads)

• Width of fender panel to suit allowable reaction line load for the aluminum belting on the catamaran

• Fender design in accordance with BS6349-4 and PIANC WG33
