Shape Memory Alloy Actuators for Improved Energy Efficiency

Fundamental principles and engineering design tools are developed. Simulated and measured (via neutron diffraction) tex‐tures are shown. These micro behaviors are correlated with macro phenomena.

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are used to morph aircraft geometries to improve fuel efficiency and reduce acoustic pollution.
