Led Zeppelin

An English rock band formed in 1968.

Consists of guitarist Jimmy Page, vocalist

Robert Plant, bassist John Paul Jones anddrummer John Bonham. John Bonham

passed away in 1980. They released 10+

albums and got back together in December of 

2007 with Bonham’s son, Jason Bonham on

drums. 

The Rolling Stones

An English rock ‘n’ roll band formed in 1962.Consists of vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarist

Keith Richards, guitarist Ron Wood and

drummer Charlie Watts. Sold over 40 million

records and are considered one of the

greatest bands to date. They are still

performing today.

The Who

Another English rock band formed in the mid-60s

Consisted of vocalist Roger Daltrey, guitarist

Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle anddrummer Keith Moon. Unfortunately, both

Entwistle and Moon have passed away. Daltrey

and Townshend are still performing and in 2006

released a studio album titled Endless Wire.

The Beatles

A classic pop/rock group from Liverpool,

England. Consists of Paul McCartney, JohnLennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. This

band is considered the greatest band of all time.

All four of the Beatles went to pursue solo

careers after the band’s break up in 1970.

Lennon died in 1980 and Harrison died in

November of 2001 due to lung cancer.

Jimi Hendrix

Born in Seattle, Washington, Hendrix is perhaps the

most influential guitarist of the 20th century. His

psychedelic sounds and techniques were an

influence to all guitarists. He played a righty guitar 

even though he was left-handed. He was known for 

his untraditional ways of playing such as playing

behind the back and playing with his teeth. He died

of a drug OD in 1970.

The Yardbirds

This British rock band is famous for starting the

careers of three legendary guitarists; Jeff Beck,Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Jimmy page

was originally hired to play bass but his skills

on guitar were amazing. Jeff Beck ended up

going solo, Jimmy Page started the legendary

Led Zeppelin and Clapton joined the band

Cream and then went solo.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

A movie about a British soldier Cairo, Thomas Edward

Lawrence. The movie begins with Lawrence’s death in a

motorcycle accident in London at the age of 47. The movie isa flashback of his life as an officer during WWI in1916 in

Cairo. It won 7 academy awards including best picture.

The Sound of Music (1965)

The Sound of Music is a classic musical that tells the story

of an Austrian family that hires a new nanny, Maria, duringWWII. Maria comes from a convent and escaped. The

Von Trapp family is famous for its Army captain and their 

seven singing children. Maria ends up marrying Captain

Von Trapp and the family escapes the Nazis. The Sound

of Music won 5 academy awards.

To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

Based on a novel by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird,

starring Gregory Peck, tell the story of prejudice and

injustice in 1932 Alabama through the eyes of a six year oldtomboy girl. Atticus Finch (Peck), is the father of the girl and

defends a black man in a rape trial. To Kill a Mockingbird

won three Academy Awards.

Mary Poppins (1964)

Mary Poppins is a musical which tells a story of a Britishbankers, who’s unhappy children get a magic nanny, Mary

Poppins. Mary flies with a magic umbrella and takes the kids

to a magical place of animals and people etc. These

children’s lives are turned around by nonsensical

amusement. Mary Poppins won five Academy Awards.

The Great Escape (1963)

This true story is about American prisoners of war in

Germany who attempt and succeed to escape an

“inescapable” POW camp. During the first half of themovie, the escape artist prisoners dig the escape tunnel.

During the second half, they go through fatal adventures

with boats, trains and planes, attempting to escape

occupied Europe.

Judgement at Nuremberg (1961)

This film is about the Nazi trials in America just as the

Cold War is Beginning. These trials were still going on

during the cold war. When Germany joined the US as cold

war allies, this was a sign for their release

effects

• Julie Andrews was the star of two nanny musicals, The Sound of 

Music and Mary Poppins
