Welcome to St. Rose
Welcome to Historic St. Rose of Lima Church! As
you can see, St. Rose is a magnificent house of God.
It was built a century ago by the Irish Community of
Quincy at the price of many sacrifices. This church, a
historical landmark of the city of Quincy, is
considered as representative of the Venetian Gothic
style: a mix of Gothic, Romanesque, and Byzantine
styles. Before the church was reopened in the fall of
2008, 3 marble altars were installed as well as a
matching altar rail and pulpit. The altars were
consecrated by the Bishop of our diocese, Bishop
Thomas Paprocki on June 10, 2012.
One of the main fixtures of this church is the amazing
collection of stained glass windows (1912)
characteristic of the Munich Pictorial Style. We have
begun their restoration and the first phase of the work
was done in the fall of 2012. With your help, the
project should be completed by the end of 2014. If
you wish to be part of this project, contact the rectory.
A brochure explaining the project of restoration is
available.
As St. Rose Latin Mass Community is not a parish but
a chaplaincy, when you join it, you remain a member
of your local Catholic parish. To join, just give us a
call. After both Sunday Masses, the community meets
in the hall to socialize. Members and Visitors are
welcome! Coffee & Donuts are available.

From the Chaplain’s desk: 13th Sunday after Pentecost The Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary
Before the beginning of private revelations of the Sacred
Hearts of Jesus and Mary in modern times, St. John Eudes
(1601-1680) had obtained permission from the ecclesiastical
authorities to celebrate the Feast of the Heart of Mary
liturgically. This was done for the first time at Autun, France,
in 1648. In 1799 Pope Pius VI permitted religious societies in
the archdiocese of Palermo, Sicily, to celebrate a similar feast.
In 1805 Pope Pius VII extended this permission to all
religious societies and dioceses throughout the world. In 1855,
the Sacred Congregation of Rites approved for the universal
Church an Office and Mass in honor of the Most Pure Heart
of Mary. Pope Pius XII instituted the Feast of the Immaculate
Heart of Mary for the universal Church in 1945.
St. John Eudes also obtained permission to honor the
Sacred Heart of Jesus in the liturgy. This was done for the
first time at the Grand Seminary of Rennes (France) in 1670.
This liturgical commemoration of the love of the Redeemer
began just two years or so before Our Lord appeared to St.
Margaret Mary Alacoque, asking her to reveal His Heart to
the world. Spurred on the Revelations to St. Margaret the
liturgical celebration of the Sacred Heart gradually grew in
popularity throughout Europe. Blessed Pope Pius IX extended
the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to the entire Catholic
Church in 1858.
On May 25, 1899, the same pope in his encyclical letter
Annum Sacrum decreed that the consecration of the entire
human race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus should take place on
June 11, 1899. He urged the entire Roman Catholic
episcopate to promote the devotion of the Nine First Fridays
and he established June as the Month of the Sacred Heart.
Pope St. Pius X decreed that the consecration of the human
race, performed by Pope Leo XIII be renewed each year. Pope
Pius XI in his encyclical letter Miserentissimus (May 8, 1928)
reaffirmed the importance of consecration and reparation to
the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Finally Pope Pius XII, on the
occasion of the 100th anniversary of Pope Pius IX's institution
of the Feast, instructed the entire Catholic Church at length on
the devotion to the Sacred Heart in his encyclical letter
Haurietis aquas (May 15, 1956)
It was Pope Pius XII who first consecrated the Church
and the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on October 31
and again, solemnly on December 8, 1942. In recent times,
moved by millions of petitions and by the occasion of the
attempted assassination of his own person on the Feast of Our
Lady of Fatima, May 13, 1981, Pope John Paul II consecrated
the world and every nation to the Immaculate Heart in 1982,
and repeated this act in union with all the Catholic Bishops
again in 1983.

Weekly Feature: Relativism – Chris Stefanick
Pope Benedict XVI considered relativism to be the most
dangerous dictatorship existing in the world today. In this
presentation, Chris Stefanick debunks the powerful and
epidemic myth of relativism with honesty, relevance,
humor, and logical validity, offering a much-needed
perspective on the current status quo of morality.
“If you only listen to one CD this year, listen to
