In this hands-on session you will experience SAP NetWeaver Portal from end user and administration perspective.You have the opportunity to select your exercises depending on your personal area of interest. Due to time

constraints during the Hands-on session, it is recommended that you first take a look at the differentexercises and then decide which ones you want to work through first .

Portal End User Experience

Objective

In this section you will experience SAP NetWeaver Portal from an end user perspective – via a nicely customizeddesign example (not part of standard delivery!).

The demo company “Ozone” is running an intranet based on SAP NetWeaver Portal to provide its employeescentral access to company information, applications and self-services.In the exercise you will be able to explore various solutions for professionally managing content, working withdocuments and sharing news with your team.

Note: SAP NetWeaver Portal offers flexible tools for adjusting the visual appearance via theme designer (colors,

fonts, images, etc.) and custom-built framework pages (e.g. page layout and menus). In this demo we usestandard role, navigation and permission mechanisms behind the scenes  – but with a customized user interface(framework page, navigation iViews).

Portal 7.4 End User View  – Step by Step Guide

(1) Open the shortcut Student (Local) on your desktop.

(1) Open folder

(1) Double click to start your portal in a Google Chrome Browser.

The portal URL is started with the URL alias /portal/teched. This alias is configured to support anonymousaccess, so a first view of the portal is already displayed instead of showing a logon screen. However, theanonymous user role is very limited, so you can just see the start screen, but no content yet.

(1) In the Browse Documents iView you see three view types: On the left, there is a tree view, listing allfolders and their structure. When you click on a folder, the subordinate folders, pages etc. appear. In the listview in the center of the page, all elements of the folder are listed. You can mark single documents or foldersby clicking the grey button in front of the row. The view on the right shows the properties of the selectedelement, such as name and creation date.

You want to upload a new travel policies document, so click to open the folder.

Portal Content Exercise

Portal Content Administration

Managing Portal ContentThe “Content Administration” role is one of the most important roles for administrators in the portal amongstuser and system administration.In the content administration section you will learn how to work with objects in the portal content directory, manageportal roles and their impact on navigation for end users. You are going to create some enterprise feeds toconsume RSS content from remote websites.

Enterprise FeedsThe new enterprise feed infrastructure (deliver via Enterprise Workspaces) allows you to integration and aggregateRSS-based content items from different channels. The out of the box provided channel types include KnowledgeManagement (KM) News, RSS, and Universal Worklist. You first create the enterprise feed and then you add oneor more channels to it. An enterprise feed can contain multiple channels of the same type or of different types.

(1) For administration part of this exercise, you should use the standard portal framework. To use differentbrowsers, this part of the exercise is done with Internet Explorer. Double click the Student

(Local) shortcut on your desktop to start this part of the exercise.

(1) Navigate to folder POP263 and double click the entry to start the portal(Note: verify that the URL ends with …/irj/portal before entering your user credentials).

Note: Please replace XX with the Group.

(1) Now, when you log on to the portal as an administrator with the standard URL, you are experiencing the

standard SAP Portal Desktop.

  On the top of the page there is a mast head, which contains a search function and various services as“History”, “Favorites” or “Help”.

  Below the mast head, you can find the top-level navigation. A variety of tabs represent the different rolesassigned to your user. They provide access to all information and applications relevant for you. Anotheruser might see different entry points, depending on their job role and the corresponding requirements. Inthis case you have e.g. the SAP TechEd, Wiki and Forums role from an end user perspective andadministrative roles such as Content Administration, Wikis & Forums Administration, Workspaces,OpenText Portal Site Management, etc. 

  On the left there is the detailed navigation. It enables you to navigate deeper into the portal´s structure and

access any kind of subfolder or page.  The main section in the center is the content area. Here, the actual page content is displayed. It´s

structured in a specific layout and contains articles or iViews. iViews are containers with applications. Youmay know similar elements such as widgets, modules or webparts.  

Click Content Administration to go to the portal content directory and explore the content and the roles that havebeen assigned to you, e.g. “My Team”.

(1) Take a look at the role. For your demo end user a variety of pages are assigned to this role, e.g. theTeam Newsletter page and wiki and forums pages that you saw before. The top node of this role "My Team"is shown as part of the Top Level Navigation. This is defined by the checkmark in the Entry Point column.

Click this checkmark to remove it and see what happens to the navigation.

(1) Switch back to Chrome that should still be open in the background. If not, please open it again using thelink in the Student (Local) shortcut, as described at the beginning of the end user section of this exercise.

If necessary, click .

If your user is still logged in, just refresh the page.

 As you see, the My Team role is no longer visible in the portal. Now switch back to the administrator.

(1) Switch back to IE with the Portal Content Administration again and click Close to close the role.

(1) Now, you want to create a new iView to display RSS feeds in the portal. To store it in forder iViews,

click iViews .

 An enterprise feed is a container that enables you to aggregate content items from different channels. You will first create an EnterpriseFeed object, then you will add a channel to it. You could also add several channels. Finally, you will create an iView to displayEnterprise Feed content in the portal.

(1) To create the Enterprise Feed, click on with the right mouse button to open the context menu.

Configuring Mobile Access - Basics

Mobile Access Configuration

Configuring Mobile AccessUsing mobile Web browsers, you can access the portal from mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablets. Touse portal on device, you need to create portal content that has been designed for mobile users and has beentailored for display on mobile devices. This includes using a UI technology that is supported by mobile devices(e.g. SAPUI5), adjusting the application form factor, and tailoring the application complexity. You can either adaptexisting portal content, or develop new content. After creating the content for portal on device, you need to tag thiscontent so that it is filtered for display on mobile devices only.

The mobile configuration section shows you how to work with mobile roles (content structure), mobile frameworkpages / portal desktop (layout for smartphones and tablets) and tag content (via filter ID, display rules) to beaccessed via different devices. SAP delivers out of the box an “Every User Mobile Role” that contains importantelements such as home page, launcher, favorites or explorer views.

1.1.1. Exercise

(1) For mobile configuration, you need a user with System Administration role. Therefore, please logoff andenter user mobile and password welcome. Click Log On .

(1) First, we want to check how the Mobile Desktop is assigned to mobile users. There are two specificDesktops and Framework Pages that come with the standard portal delivery of SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3and 7.4, one for smartphones and one for tablets.

To see, the assignment of these desktops, click System Administration .

(1) Click Portal Display to open the Desktops & Display Rules page.

Display rules are used to assign portal desktops (in this case mobile desktops) to portal users at runtime.

(1) Open the folder Portal Content > Portal Administrators > Super Administrators.

(1) The master rule collection to mobile users the desktop that has been created for mobile access. Ifthe device type of the user is Tablet, then the TabletPortalDesktop is used.

There are also other ways to assign Portal Desktops to a user that you can also see in this Master RuleCollection. E.g. if the URL alias portal/tablet is entered, the TabletPortalDesktop is also used.

(1) To take a look at the TabletPortalDesktop, open the folder Portal Users > Standard Portal Users >Tablet Framework Content.

(1) Right-click on Tablet Portal Desktop .

(2) Click Open > Properties to display the properties of the Tablet Portal Desktop.

For separating content for mobile devices and classic desktops, the Filter ID property is used. The PortalDesktop that is used for tablet devices was assigned Filter ID com.sap.portal.tablet . This Filter ID can now beused to tag content that should be displayed on tablet devices. You can see this Filter ID later also asproperty of pages or folders of the mobile role.

(1) This mobile role contains content targeting mobile scenarios both on smartphones and on tablet devices.There are three role folders called Launcher. As you see when looking at the Filter ID in the last column, oneis dedicated for smartphones, one for tablets and the last one can be used for both. As there will be just onelauncher at runtime from which the end user can launch all pre-defined applications, the content from bothapplicable launchers (for the device type used) will be merged.On the bottom of the list, there is also a folder Toolbox. The Toolbox is an overlaying list of launchable items,such as Favorites or Contacts, which you open and close using a tab on the left side of the mobile frameworkpage. So, in this example, you will find a Worklist, when opening the toolbox on a smartphone and theWorkspace Directory and a Worklist on a tablet.

With Web Page Composer (WPC), business users can easily create and manage SAP NetWeaver Portalcontent and pages that combine business applications, web content, and documents. At the same time,governance tools ensure the quality of the user-generated content.

 An area is grouping web pages within a navigation structure. You can create web pages and contentyourself or delegate these tasks to other users. In the exercise you will update existing and create new webpages with different types of content (e.g. applications, web forms for news or announcements, images,documents, etc). Afterwards you will publish the pages and areas to make the content available for the endusers.

In this exercise you will learn how to edit web pages and manage content via Web Page Composer.

Working with Web Page Composer

Logon to the portal with the content editor role.Enter username ContentEditor and password Welcome13. Click Log On.

Edit/Update an existing Portal Page1) Navigate to role “SAP TechEd” and check the navigation structure and the content. You will see various

pages for the different SAP TechEd events. Look at the home page and its elements.2) The tool bar in the upper left corner of the page offers various services: editing, send email, print,

subscribe (RSS), and provide feedback. As you have the required authoring permissions you can nowlaunch the in-place editing mode to directly make adjustments to the page (e.g. updating the page withnew content.)

Open the page for editing1) Press the pencil icon to launch the editing mode.2) You are automatically navigating to Area Management > Content Editor > Staging Area > SAP TechEd >

3) Select an image and drag it onto the page layout.4) Next, add some additional paragraphs to the page. Select the “Paragraph” element from the Content

Templates section in the content panel. Here you may also re-use some text from the official SAPTechEd website for your text box. Press “Save” and “Close” the window by confirming the dialog. 

5) Add a link list to the page. Enter a name and link to another page or website. You may use enter links toother local TechEd web sites. Select “Add Element” and “Link List Item” to add additional links. Press“Save” and “Close” the window by confirming the dialog.

You can optionally add further elements to the page.1) URL iView: Administrators can expose any portal iView as content template to the authors for re-use.

The URL iView is the most generic one. You can add this to the page and specify the URL to any webbased application, website or report. Drop the URL iView template to your page. In the settings editorspecify the full URL of your target (e.g. http://www.sapteched.com).

2) Create a documents list by selecting a folder from the global shared content and drop it on the page. Adocument list (KM Navigation iView) is automatically generated and points directly to this particularfolder.

3) Add a dynamic (news) list from content templates. In the properties enter “Target folder”:“/pccshrcontent/TechEdNews/TechnologyNews/DatabaseAndTechnology”.

 Advanced Authoring Scenarios

Check authoring permissions1) Now let’s check the authoring permissions for your page. 2) Open the drop down menu in the tool bar and select “Authoring permissions”.  3) Check the different roles / groups / users that have access to the page and their permission level

(none; read; read/write; full control; owner)4) Optionally: Add more authors from the user base to the page by opening the edit mode. Search for users

(e.g. POP263_A*) and add your results. Save and confirm your changes.

Check version history1) As you saved various versions while editing your pages, you can now check the history.2) Open the drop down menu in the tool bar and select “Version history”.  3) You see the different versions and may restore a dedicated page version if needed.

Schedule publication for a page1) You can schedule a page to be published at a certain point in time instead of publishing it immediately.2)  Add some content to the page (e.g. create or move elements) so the page status is “changed”.  3) Open the drop down menu in the tool bar and select “Scheduled publication”.  

4) Enter a date and time for the publication. Planned publication date / time is current time plus 5 minutes.(Optional) Enter a date and time for the removal from runtime.Note: After removal the end users cannot access the page any longer (at runtime), but the page will stillbe available in the authoring environment for editing (during design time).

5) Press “Save” to confirm your settings.Note: Once the page is submitted it will remain in read-only mode until it has been finally published.

6) You may cancel the planned publication date, in case you would like to apply some additional changes.7) Check the page status on top of the toolbar right now and after your specified publication time.

Working Approval Workflow1) Open the drop down menu in the tool bar and select “Approval settings”.2) Press “Edit” and mark the check box to enable approval. 3) In the search tool, you can look for roles/groups/users that should approve changes of the page in order

to trigger the final publication.

Note: For the ease of the exercise include yourself as an approver, e.g. search for role “AreaManagement” or group “POP263” and add to the list.

1) The status of the page is changed accordingly.2) You also see pages that are waiting for approval in your personal overview.3) Select “Overview” in the menu bar of the staging area.4) In the section “Waiting for approval” you see pages that are “waiting for my approval”. This section might

be minimized. To see the entries expand it in the tray.5) Approve your changes: Since you are part of the approver list you can directly decide whether to

“Accept” or “Reject” the publication using the new option icons in the tool bar.6) Press the “Reject” icon to release the page for end users. 

Check version history1) You may check the new entries in the version history overview of your page.

2) Select version history from the drop down menu.
