From your garden to TOSH garden this Saturday 10 April Tired of looking at the long grass and weeds in your large garden after all this rain? Need a change of scenery with a lake view? Then pop along to The Old School House (TOSH) garden in 17 Obit Obi Rd at 8am and help other volunteers work some wonders there (weather permitting). We’ll aim for trimming, tidying and weeding as needed, followed by morning tea and hope to finish by about 10.15am. Remember to slip, slop, slap and sip, wear suitable clothing and bring gloves, secateurs and hand tools. For further information please ring Glenis on 5445 7813.

Yellow-faced honeyeater

Lichenostomus chrysops

Like most honeyeaters in eastern and south-eastern Australia, the yellow-faced Honeyeater is an active species, spending much time probing flowers or gleaning insects from the foliage of trees. But it is when they are on migration that they become conspicuous, congregating in large flocks, and thousands of birds may pass by in the space of an hour as they migrate north along the Great Divide each autumn and return south each spring. Migration is happening now. The yellow-faced honeyeater is a medium to small, plainly coloured honeyeater with a slightly down curved bill. It is dark grey brown above, with some brown streaking on the head, and paler below with lighter streaks. It has a distinctive, broad yellow face stripe, bordered with black. The males are slightly larger but the sexes are otherwise similar. Young are paler and unstreaked on the head.

Bauhinia corymbosa

Orchid vine A shrubby semiclimber/groundcover with butterfly shaped leaves, bears masses of pale pink orchid like flowers. Sun loving groundcover-climber-hedge. Looks delicate, grows tough. Hardy enough for planting on median strips and city spaces; pretty enough for any cottage garden. Noosa Botanic Gardens has a large hedge of this at the entrance, shown in one of the images. Prefers a light to medium soil in protected position. Drought and frost tender. Native to Asia.
