# 1 - POSITION STRINGERS

Set two stringers (Left & Right) on a flat surface and butt at tops as shown in Figure 1. Stringers are marked with a “L” & “R” at the ends to identify

L R Figure 1

# 2 - FIT TOP PLATFORM

Fit top platform into the slots at the top of the stringers; aligning tabs / knobs on the end of the platform (Figure 2.1) with the holes in the stringers (Figure 2.2). Make certain the anti-skid surface of the platform is facing upward. Firmly press / tap platform so button lock tabs of platform protrude through holes in stringers and lock in place (Figure 2.3). Try not to damage button lock tabs at other end of top platform

# 3 - FIT TREADS & RISERS

Fit folding tread-risers and bottom risers into stringers. Start by bending a folding tread-riser down the center fold line (Figures 3.1). HINT: put tread-riser in the sun to warm plastic or, if very cold out, warm fold line with hair dryer. Do not overheat plastic as it may cause discoloration. When tread-riser is folded into a “L” shape, position the end of the tread-riser, with the locking tabs, into the groves of the stringer (see Figure 3.2 & 3.3). Proper positioning of the folding tread-riser is outlined by the squares ( [] ) in Figure 3.2. The holes in the stringers, within the groves, accept the locking tabs on the ends of the tread-risers. The letter “T” represents the tread portion and the letter “R” represents the riser portion of the tread-riser part. The tread portion has 2 locking tabs and the riser portion 1 locking tab. These fit appropriately into the holes in the stringer outlined in Figure 3.2 & 3.3. Firmly press / tap tread-riser so all button lock tabs protrude through holes in stringer and lock in place (Figure 3.6). Similarly, the next tread-riser fits directly above the part just inserted. Repeat for all 4 tread-risers on both sides of step stringers. Fit the single bottom risers into the bottom groove position of the stringers. Figure 3.2 outlines the single hole in the stringer “BR” where the locking tab on the ends of the bottom riser fit ( Figures 3.2, 3.4 & 3.5). Press firmly so the button lock tab protrudes through the hole in the stringer and locks in place (Figure 3.6). Repeat for both bottom risers

Figure 5.2

Fit a square top handrail (short) in place between two (2) top posts (short) as shown in Figure 5.1. Fit the two top posts and handrail into the top pockets / indentations of the stringers and press firmly into place. Position a u-shaped connector overtop and also press firmly into place (Figure 5.2). Secure u-shaped connector and posts using two (2) 2-1/4 inch long bolts, washers on both sides and hex nuts at positions indicated. Use six (6) 3/4 inch long bolts, washers on both sides and hex nuts to complete the fastening of the u-shaped connector. Tighten all hardware. Secure top handrail in place using four (4) # 8 x 3/4 inch long screws at the four pre-drilled locations in the handrail

Turn steps over 180 degrees and lay flat on other face. Repeat Step 5 above for the assembly of the remaining two top posts, top handrail and u-shaped connector. Make certain all hardware is tightened

# 6 - FIT BOTTOM POSTS

IN-POOL EXTERIOR

Figure 7

Fit the two (2) square handrails, with routed holes for the pickets facing down-ward, into the EXTERIOR portion of the step. The WIDE END (as shown) fits into the top post and the NARROW END fits over the knob on the bottom post (see Figure 7). Secure each exterior handrail using four (4) # 8 x 3/4 inch long screws at both top and bottom post connection points. Similarly, fit two (2) blank handrails provided for the IN-POOL portion of the step. Make certain the pre-drilled screw holes are on the sides of the post connection points. Secure using four (4) # 8 x 3/4 inch long screws. Tighten all screws to snug

Separate the twelve (12) pickets provided. The pickets are packaged in bundles of six (6) marked “R” for right and “L” for left. Right and left for the step is always determined as if you are facing the step about to climb. Fit the left and right pickets into the routed holes on the underside of the exterior handrails and into the molded pockets / indentations on the stringers. IMPORTANT: Make certain the pre-drilled screw holes in the pickets are on the bottom and face in toward the step / stringers (see Figure 8). Secure the pickets in place using twelve (12) # 10 x 1 inch long screws provided. Fasten screws through the holes in stringers and into the pre-drilled hole of the pickets. Do not over-tighten the screws as the holes may strip causing the picket to be loose fitting. Repeat for all left and right pickets

# 8 - FIT & SECURE PICKETS

Figure 8

Attach two (2) spring hinges to the gate using six (6) # 10 x 1 inch long screws provided. The gate has pre-drilled holes at both top & bottom to accept the screws (Figure 9.1). Do not over-tighten screws as it may cause the holes to strip. Position the gate in the step opening on the EXTERIOR portion (Figure 9.2). The upper hinge should be positioned directly below the ridge in the bottom left post (see Detail 9.3). You should have @ a 1/4 inch gap between the bottom of the gate and the bottom step tread so the gate will open without hitting the tread. Likewise, you should balance the gap on the left & right side of the gate, between the bottom posts so it will open freely. Mark location of six (6) remaining hinge screws on left post. Pre-drill using a 1/8 inch bit and secure gate in place using the # 10 x 1 inch long screws. Do not over-tighten the screws as holes may strip Figure 9.1

# 11 - DETERMINE POOL DEPTH

Figure 11.2

Figure 11.1

Measure the depth of the pool to determine if the FOOT EXTENSIONS are required to be attached to your pool step entry system. Measure the inside depth of the pool, from the pool floor to the top of the top rail (Figure 11.1). The CS step system has clearance of 52.5 inches without the foot extensions (Figure 11.2). If your pool measures equal to or less than the 52 inches the foot extensions are not required

# 12 - ATTACH FOOT EXTENSIONS * (IF REQUIRED) *

52"

If your pool depth, from pool floor to top of top rail, measures greater than 52 inches in height, you will need to attach the foot extensions provided. The foot extensions are used as shoes for the bottom of the stringers to raise the height clearance of the CS step system over your pool wall. Fit the foot extensions onto the bottom of the stringers (Figure 12.1). Make certain to fit properly - front & back as indicated (front is the nose of the stringer). Once in place, pre-drill a 3/16 inch pilot hole in the stringer and secure using a # 14 x 1 inch screw both front & back. Make certain not to over-tighten screws. Repeat for all four

Included with the CS step system is a barrier (Figure 13.1) designed to prevent swimming behind the unit - it is very important that it is installed. The barrier is hollow and can be filled with coarse sand or gravel for ballast if desired. The additional weight will assist the step to sit securely on the pool floor. A closure cap for the barrier (Figure 13.2) is included. Simply remove the cap, fill barrier and replace cap. DO NOT USE fine sand if filling the barrier as it may escape small air holes in the barrier.

# 13 - ATTACH BARRIER Figure 13.1

Figure 13.2

Figure 13.3

Figure 13.5

Position the barrier in the center of the underside of the in-pool portion of the steps (Figure 13.3). The four knobs on the barrier fit into indentations on the under-side of the treads (Figure 13.4). Press barrier and knobs into treads and secure using eight (8) # 10 x 1 inch long screws provided. Make certain not to over-tighten the screws as they may strip.

Figure 13.4

Make certain the barrier is securely fastened in place before positioning step within pool. REMEMBER, nothing replaces parental supervision - NEVER leave children unattended in the swimming pool

Figure 15.2 # 14 - CHECK STRINGERS

Before positioning step system in the pool check the bottom of the stringers of the in-pool portion to make certain there are no sharp edges or debris attached. It is VERY IMPORTANT that the bottoms of the stringers be smooth as not to damage the pool liner. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to use a step / ladder pad beneath the stringers inside the pool (sold separately)

Check bottom of stringers

# 15 - POSITION IN POOL

Determine the desired location of the step system in the pool. It is recommended to be easily accessible but not in a high traffic location. The step system must be placed between two of the pool upright support posts (Figure 15.1 & 15.2). Lower the step into the pool making certain the in-pool portion fills with water and sits level and stable on the pool floor. The exterior portion should be leveled with the in-pool portion. Make certain the step system sits on a solid, level base before using. Review all safety instructions and proper use before using entry system. Keep step system free of any obstructions - NEVER attach items to the top platorm, treads or support posts as they may cause entrapment. Test gate for proper operation. Make certain it opens under tension, self-closes and securely latches. When pool is not in use make certain the gate is locked at all times (Figure 15.3 - LOCK NOT INCLUDED). REMEMBER - ABSOLUTELY NO DIVING OR JUMPING FROM STEP ENTRY SYSTEM - THE POOL HAS SHALLOW WATER AND SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY CAN OCCUR. NEVER SWIM ALONE - SWIM SAFELY AT ALL TIMES
