Establishment
The Salient Features of our College
Foresightedness and inner drive have made our Sangha to commit itself to the cause of
women's education. Realizing the urgent need of women and their importance to the enrichment of
family & society in all fabrics of life, Mahadevi Girls School was started way back in the year 1934.
Similarly, number of schools and colleges have been started for the emancipation of women, and
fostering and nurturing them.
Godutai Doddappa Appa Arts & Commerce College for Women, was started in June 1973
in fond memory of Matoshri Godutai and pay her deepest respects and obiscience by way of giving
higher education of par excellence to women, and empower them to live independently with
enlightenment and vocation to pursue.
The newly built imposing edifice of our college is connoisseur's delight and an architectural
extravaganza. When on stands and stares at it, every look is a revitalization of one's soul. You pay a
visit to it, it exults you. It stands depicting & extolling the eternal beauty and refined tastes of
Appaji's deep & profound quint essence of arts & culture. Being situated on a lake side, it has a
sprawling spiritual campus rendered with aesthetically laid lawns & flower bearing nurseries and
plants. It evokes a profound sense of contentment. It's serene and peaceful ambience arrests the
attention of on lookers. It is a gift of Appaji to the 21st Century women to elevate herself to highest
rungs and echelons of life. Come & join this college, dare to dream and dream to become a lady like
Godutai, the noble soul.

1. POOJYA APPAJI'S VISION
By the blessings of Poojya Dr. Appaji, the Godutai Degree College of
Arts And Commerce for Women was started. It was inspired by the life and
teaching of Godutai and guided by Dr. Appaji's vision. It provides a
comprehensive education in arts and commerce degree courses. It is the
most cherished dream of Appaji that our lady students should be spiritually
guided, intellectually stimulated, and morally upright and they should be socially committed then
only we can dream of building an ideal society and the nation. Appaji pleads that higher education
does not mean mere acquisition of degrees, it is something more. Along with fostering our
traditional values and culture, it should enable them to face any challenges in life in this era of
globalisation.

MISSION:
The College is committed to its mission in all endeavors. Our institution is based on the life
and message of Lord Sharnbasveshwar. In our institution we have adopted innovative method of
teaching. The following are the innovative methods,
1. INDEPENDENT THINKING – It is adopted by discourse method
2. INDEPENDENT WRITING - We give daily assignments and evaluate and give them back
on the same day. Writing makes man perfect.
3. INDEPENDENT SPEAKING - It is adopted by debating and discourse method.
4. INDEPENDENT LIVING – We teach value based education (Discipline, Sincerity and
Hard work) to face the challenges in the life, to serve not only her family, but also the whole
nation and mankind

3. THE CAMPUS:
The college is situated near Sharnbasveshwar Temple. There is an excellent access to go by autos and city buses
fly frequently. The college building is located in spacious site and there are well equipped classrooms. Hostel
facility is also available.

We have computer laboratories for staff and students. More than 25 up dated computers with high speed
network are available. All can access internet free of charge within the library. We have well equipped
classrooms with smart boards.
3. Mentor System has been introduced in our college.
4. Grievance cell is functioning in our college.
5. Counselling, Red Cross Unit, Anti-ragging cell are functioning in our college.
6. Garden – The college has flowered with lush green meadows and gardens
7. Placement Cell – The College is in touch with local recruitment agencies to find suitable employment
opportunities for our students.
8. Coaching classes:
We conduct Yoga training camp for two weeks, sports coaching classes, remedial classes for weak students
and coaching classes for commerce students.
9. Workshops:
We conduct workshops on First Aid, Arthritis, Spoken English, and Personality Development etc.

1. Library- A spacious reading room is available with reference books, internet facilities. The
facilities are available to the students, morning till the evening. Two UGC books are issued to
each student. The Book bank scheme is available for SC, ST, Minority and poor students.
Reference books and magazines cannot be loaned out. It is the duty of every student to return
the library books on time without causing any damage to them “NO DUE “form or clearance
certificate is essential before the annual examination. During the exam time library timings
will be extended.
Library with over 21537 Books, 36 Journals & periodicals, 6000 ejournals & 97000 ebooks.
2. Internal Assessment Tests and Tutorials, General Knowledge Tests will be conducted
regularly as per the schedule. As per the guidelines of Karnataka State women's university
Bijapur two internal assessment tests to be conducted in every semester. Class tests, tutorials,
General knowledge tests, seminar, assignments are part of teaching and learning process.
Poojya Dr. Appaji, the President of Sharnbasveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha, has given
instructions to give home assignments to students so that they can develop the art of writing.
The members of the teaching faculty follow it scrupulously.
3. Health Awareness programmes, medical check up will be conducted in our college.
4. Cafeteria- Separate refreshment rooms are set up for staff and students. Students are allowed
to visit to cafeteria during leisure time and consume healthy food.
Admission schedule and fees structure are followed in accordance with the guidelines given by
Karnataka State Women's University Bijapur.
Note-If there is any change that would be brought to the notice of the students
Students have to get permission from their parents in written form to undertake Educational
Tours and members of the staff will accompany the students in tour. The Industrial tour is the part
of curriculum. Students have to maintain discipline in tours.

7. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
1. CULTURAL AND LITERARY ACTIVITIES
We encourage and support the students to bring out the hidden talents through various cultural
and literary activities. Cultural activities like dance, songs, skit, mime, drama, Fine arts, like
poster making, painting, rangoli, clay modelling, collage etc .will be held in the college.
Literary activities like debate, elocution, essay writing, quiz are organised in order to create
awareness and awakening among students of our tradition, customs and festivals of the region.
We organize “AVVA CULTURAL FESTIVAL” to sensitize students regarding the cultural
heritage of our region.
2. SPORTS
Gym facility is available in the college, coaching in different events of sports like Yoga,
Chess, Basket Ball, Volley ball and athletics etc. are offered. We encourage students to
participate intercollegiate and inter university tournaments held at different venues. Students
also take part in inter class and institutional competition.
3. NSS
We have two units A & B, students participate in NSS regular activities, annual special camp,
rallies, leadership camps, health awareness programs etc.
4. NCC
The students have the option to join the NCC to quench their young and enthusiastic spirit of
adventure. They can participate in number of activities as scheduled by NCC battalion. Our
NCC cadets get selected to participate in Republic Day parade held in New Delhi.

10. M.A. JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION
Achievements of the Department
The media has undergone major changes in
the modern world. The growth of electronic and
print media is so rapid and fast expanding that the
world has become smaller and global village
concept has become reality. The department was
started in the year 2009-10 which is affiliated to
Karnataka State Women's University, Bijapur.
Our students have secured cent percent
result from last four years. During 2010-11 Kum. th thAshwini B Reddy and Kum. Sunita B Patil have secured 4 and 5 rank respectively Kum. Asharani.
rdB Sulekar reaped 3 rank in the year 2011-12.
Most of the students who have completed PG course are serving in print and electronic media
as lecturers and also as PRO in different organizations.
A well equipped library consisting of leading regional and national news papers magazines
and various reference books is setup. We have TV studio with latest editing software. Our students
do participate in various inter collegiate sports competition. Two of our students represented inter
university chess tournament held at Kanpur and Vellore. The PG. Department has dedicated and
experienced staff.
