Cricket has always been like a religion for this country. It is seen as morethan just a game. The players are considered as demigods and literally

worshipped. The Twenty20 format of cricket created history. After theTwenty20 format of cricket was introduced to the world, cricket has just

been overflowing out of everyone's ears, its all about cricket.Indian Premier League's origin is quite interesting.

It all started when Lalit Modi, the Vice President of the Board of CricketControl in India (BCCI) envisioned the Indian Premier League. It is createdalong the lines of club football in Europe, specifically the English Premier League. IPL has been launched in response to the rebel Indian Cricket

League (ICL) launched by Zee Group.

The DLF Indian Premier League is an amazing occurrence in whole of cricket history. The Indian Cricket Board approved it a few months back. Itis seen as a very good opportunity as far as the entertainment industry is

concerned. The format of Twenty20 cricket has emerged as a phenomenonafter the Twenty20 World Cup was won by India and since then peoplehave been totally immersed into it. There is no doubt where the Indian

Premier League is headed, as far as viewership and profits for everyone .

In 2012 the naming rights for the series was awarded to Pepsi.[12] Twoeligible bids were received, with Pepsi winning over Airtel with a bid of Rs396.8 crore

The inaugural season of the tournament started on 18 April 2008 and lasted for 43

days with 59 matches scheduled, out of which 58 took place and 1 was washed

out due to rain. The final was played in DY Patil Stadium, Nerul, Navi Mumbai.

Every team played each other both at home and away in a round-robin system.

The top four ranking sides progressed to the knockout stage of semi-finals

followed by a final. Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings in a thriller and emerged as the inaugural IPL champions.

The 2009 Indian Premier League season, abbreviated as IPL 2 or the 2009IPL, was the second season of the Indian Premier League. The tournamentwas hosted by South Africa and was played between 18 April and 24 May2009.

The third season opened in January 2010 with the auction for players. 66players were on offer but only 11 players were sold. In this season, DeccanChargers did not play at their preferred home location of Hyderabad,India due to the political crisis in the Telangana region . The new bases for the champions this season were Nagpur , Navi Mumbai and Cuttack. Four 

teams qualified for the semi-finals.

In October 2010, the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab had their franchises terminated for breaching ownership rules. The new Kochifranchise was also issued a warning to resolve all their ownership disputes.[17] Two months later both teams were finally allowed to take part in the2011 edition after a court ruling.[18]

Chennai Super Kings won their second consecutive title after defeating theRoyal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in the final. [19] This is the first timea franchise has won two titles. The top four teams qualified for the 2011Champions League Twenty20, which the Chennai Super Kings won

The fifth season featured nine teams after the termination of the Kochifranchise and the players auction was held on 4 February 2012. Theseason saw an increase in the allowed maximum number of players ineach squad from 30 to 33. The season of 76 matches began and endedin Chennai, Tamil Nadu with the opening match on 4 April and the final on27 May.[20] The Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, MumbaiIndians and Chennai Super Kings qualified for the playoffs. The final of theseason was played at the Chidambaram Stadium on 27 May,

This edition of the IPL was the most competitive with 14 matches producing

results in the last over, and a couple in the last ball.[21][22]

Towards the endof the league, the season faced various hurdles including a spot fixingcase, which allegedly included 5 players caught on a sting operationcarried on by a local news channel; India TV .[23] The fifth season is oftenconsidered as the most controversial Indian Premier League organized

The diamond-encrusted trophy of DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) Cricket

was designed by Orra brand, owned by Antwerp-based Rosy Blue Group. Itcomprises a player in a gold leafing. He is shown holding a bat in his hand,next to a map of India. On the map, the names of all the IPL teams havebeen engraved by rubies. It took a team of as many as 14 craftsmen tomake the trophy. Every year, the winners of the IPL T20 tournament arepresented with a replica of this trophy, along with the prize money.
