WELCOME and INTRODUCTION

• Thank-you for being a coach or manager of a junior team at this great club – your help is appreciated and we couldn’t do it without you!

• Tonight is an overview of the upcoming season – questions from the floor are welcome anytime.

• Please continue to stay in touch with any of the junior team at the club – and if in doubt please ask for help

TRAINING • Training

– You chose your preferred venue, days, and times. Junior training should be completed by 6.15pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays to allow for senior teams to train.

– We recommend an hour duration – up to one and a quarter hours at most– Once agreed with your team, please advise the administrator and delegate. They will let the club

know who is training where

• Facilities– Grounds at Western springs (outer fields and half field adjacent to the Tan) – with lights, gear shed.– Grounds at Cox’s Bay, with gear shed, no lights to speak of.– Grounds at Archibald park, gear shed and lights.– There is limited space and gear – please share with your club-mates– The “tan” – sawdust shed available for use during wet weather. Please advise the club if you are

heading up there. There are no “bookings” and space is limited so please share appropriately.– Where possible, please use the margins of the outer fields off the playing area – you will need to rely

on the field come the weekend. You cannot book a field.

Pre-season games and development

• The ARU is not running any pre-season games in 2014.• The club is organising intra-club games, with a half-field teams tournament at Archibald park

this weekend. and will sanction games organised with other clubs - PLEASE advise your delegate of your intention and update him if necessary.

• Each team must have a referee. The ARU provide free courses, which is simple and short (2 hours, multiple dates). You must renew your referee ticket every year.

• Each team must have an accredited coach. Again the ARU provide a free course (2 hours, multiple dates).

• It is recommended you may wish to have multiple parents attend the courses – there is no limit on numbers and there are some benefits.

• We suggest, with the parents permission, that you create a contact list that can be shared amongst the team. It can assist greatly with last minute help

• “Coach the coaches” clinics are being run on the 10th, 16th and 23rd April. Please support these and learn from the pro’s – these are well qualified coaches!

GAME DAY• Where and when? How do I check the draw?• http://draws.nzrugby.co.nz/competitions/Fixtures.aspx?Provincial=2523&Name=Auckland%2

0RFU• Turn up on time and “locate” your opposition• Start on time and clear the field promptly at the conclusion of your game – there will likely be

another game wanting to start.• Gather up your cones quickly at the end of the game – they can easily go missing• Have your referee prepared (with their gear) to assist on an away game – no referee means

no game.• Give your parents a role – it helps you create an environment they are part of and enables

you to concentrate on the players. Roles can include sub’s management, record keeping/statistics (be realistic), time keeping, medical help/comfort, keeping sub’s warmed up with light drills, be the gear manager, etc, etc

• Enjoy the day and set the right example – a supportive style always wins in the end• Let the junior administrator know your result

GAME DAY, continued

• What gear we provide – gear bag, jerseys, basic first aid kit, balls, cones, handbook, tags,

• What we don’t provide – hit shields, flags, water bottle carriers, trophies• We recommend you bring – ice in bags or cool pads,• Injuries. Use common sense. Don’t play an injured “star”. Have a parent

assist with care and transport if required. Advise the club and delegate. Seek professional help from a weekend accident and emergency clinic or hospital.

• Visit the club! It is your club and you are welcome. There are home games to watch and it can be a great opportunity to build friendships with team-mates.

The SEASON• Saturday games from mid May to late August. Every weekend except the middle weekend of

the winter school holidays (new in 2014)• Friday night games on occasion. The club has 15 nights of use on the main ground (subject to

condition). These games include junior games, schoolboy games, adult games. The club is open and it is a great social opportunity for your team (and a weekend off!)

• Player of the month (POM). Held once a month on a Saturday afternoon after games. Please nominate your team recipient by the appointed time to ensure a certificate. Very popular afternoon.

• The club changing rooms and bistro are open on a Thursday night. This is a great opportunity to organise a team night where the kids can shower/change in the rooms, and the family can enjoy a meal and drink with team-mates families. If you want to bring a large group, please advise the club (to assist the bistro)

• U10 (Prem reserves) & U11 (Prem’s) have ball boy duties for home games (6 boys per game). A representative from the junior committee will be in touch.

• This year the club celebrates 140 years over the Queens birthday weekend. The Saturday will have a family fun day focus – so get ready to party!

OTHER EVENTS

• Photo night. Please ensure your team attends, on time. This year photo nights will likely be brought forward to June. The reason is to allow for more flexible scheduling of the prize-giving and to “de-bottleneck the end of season duties for all.

• Prize-giving. Early-mid September on a Saturday morning.

• Mid-year social event and Quiz nights – standby for updates

• End of year coaches and managers night – a social debrief and thank-you. Return of the gear bags and gear!!
