Pomegranates have originated from Iran. Its is cultivated in Spain, Egypt, Afghanistan,

Pakistan, China, Japan, Russia, America, and India. Maharashtra State is the leading producer of pomegranates in India. In India more than 0.1 million hectares of area is under

pomegranate cultivation presently. In Maharashtra pomegranate is cultivated in the districtsof Solapur, Nasik, Ahemadnagar, Pune, Sangli, Dhule, Latur, Usmanabad, Jalna, Parbhani,

Aurangabad, Beed and Satara.

Main Vaireties are Ganesh, Phule Arakta, Mridula, & Bhagwa. The fruits are available for exports mainly from July to September.

Pomegranate Exports:

Pomegranate is another important fruit grown in Maharashtra. Its usage and medicinal properties

made this fruit mote important and gradually increasing demand in the international markets like

Europe & USA. MSAMB has taken a lead and successfully exported the pomegranate containers

to UAE. Initally the demand was only in Gulf countries, however MSAMB realized the need of

the export oriented infrastructure for pomegranate and with the help of APEDA, MSAMB has

established the export facility centers for pomegranate at Baramati Dist: Pune and at Indapur

Dist: Pune and being utilized these centers by private exporters and around 1500+MTs of

pomegranate have been exported majorly to European countries in the period of 8 months.v

PINEAPPLE GROWING STATES IN NORTH EAST INDIA:

Commercial cultivation of pineapple in India started only about four decades back. The conditions

prevailing in large parts of our country are ideal for pineapple cultivation and It is being cultivated in

high rainfall and humid coastal regions of peninsular India and hilly areas of North-Eastern region. Of

late, it has been shown that pineapple can also be grown commercially in the interior plains with

medium rainfall and supplementary protective irrigation. It is grown in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura,
