Pomegranate
Hernandorena, tree nursery producer and seller of fruit trees in pot and bare root
Pomegranate
1. Meeting the needs of the agricultural sector, following market trends.
2. Expanding the company’s production from the study, development and implantation of
minority species, seeking the maximum specialization in fruit trees.
3. Improving the production system of pomegranate plant, both conventional cuttings and in
vitro laboratory cultivation, thus gaining quality, homogeneity and health in our products.
4. Field of mother plant, maximum varietal and sanitary control of the trees where the plant
material is cut for the production of the plants.
5. Search for new varieties.
6. Experimental plot: during the campaign, we carry out periodical visits there to check the
results of the technical trials studied and the adaptation of the varieties to our mediterranean
climatic zone.

Production system
After years of study and improvement of the tasks carried out on our plants during the nursery period, we have clearly opted for the production of plants in a staking format. These are some of the most important differences according to the production process and plant formation
From the moment that the cuttings start to grow, a stick is placed and tender buds are periodically removed, excepting the most straight and vigorous one. The main sprout is gui-ded by the stick until the end of the crop.
A more straight and homogeneous plant is obtained, both in size and height, achieving a remarkable differentiation in the plant quality.
By doing the cutting when the shoots are not yet lignified, it has been found that the trees do not emit as many shoots at a later stage in the agricultural plantation, and that they do not produce as many shoots or as vigorously, considerably reducing the costs of cultivation for the farmer.
At the time of planting, the formation cuts are barely visible and already well healed.
Starting from the cuttings, no pruning is carried out from planting to the pulling of the tree, and only after it has been started up in the warehouse, the straightest bud is selected as the plant and the rest of the shrub branches are eliminated.
Advantges: we only point out the lowest cost of production.
Disadvantges: an undefined formation of the seedlings, crooked plants and heterogeneity in size is observed.
In addition, the realization of large unhealed cuts at the base of the trunk may become a way of entry of pests and disea-ses. It also generates a greater appearance of sprouts later.

Sales formats
Bare root
· Plants produced in the field.
· Height of the plant: 120-140 cm.
· Plants with stick.
· Production time: 1 year.
· Possibility of suppling and planting only during winter months, dormant plant.
· Traditional format, it is the best known and commercialized.
· Product of the highest quality in size and plant height.
· Suitable for export.
Pot
· Round pot, with internal grooves that avoids the coiling of the roots
· Plants with stick.
· Possibility of supplying and planting all year round.
· Maximum quality coconut peat used as a growing media.
· The pot cultivated plant is produced indoors, under a polythene protective cover during its whole cicle. That cover is an added sanitary advantage, because it keeps the plant away from outside pests and potential vectors transmiters of deseases.
C-14
· 1.5 liter volume.
· Height of the plant: 80-100 cm.
· Production time: 8-10 months.
C-11
· 1 liter volume.
· Height of the plant: 60-80 cm.
· Production time: 6-8 months.
· This intermediate format is an economical alternative to minimize costs. Suitable for large plantations in high density.
