    Introduction

Local authorities are required to divide their area into polling districts for the purposes of UK Parliamentary elections. Following the review of the Borough ward boundaries, the Council is required to carry out a review of all polling districts and their designated polling places.

The purpose of the review is to seek to ensure that:

All electors have reasonable access to voting facilities; and

Polling places are accessible to all electors including all those with disabilities

In undertaking the review, the Council must:

Publish a notice of the review.

Consult the Acting Returning Officer for the parliamentary constituency in the area.

Enable the Acting Returning Officer to make representations to the Council and publish them in the prescribed manner.

Seek representations from such persons the Council thinks has particular expertise in relation to access to premises and/or facilities for persons who have different forms of disability.

Allow any elector in the area to make representations, including proposals for alternative polling places.

The deadline for the submission of comments is Friday 22 September 2015. The final proposals will be considered by Council at its meeting on 22 October 2015.

The new polling district and polling place arrangements under the new ward boundaries will come into effect for the elections being held on 5 May 2016.

Comments and suggestions should be sent to Electoral Services, Woking Borough Council, Civic Offices, Gloucester Square, Woking, GU21 6YL or email [email protected].

Further information is available from Charlotte Griffiths, the Electoral Services Manager at Woking Borough Council on 01483 743215 or email [email protected].
