Executive Message
Another sure sign of fall is the beginning of another ISM-NJ program
year, and 2013 promises to be more informative and exciting than ever.
Robert J. Murphy, CPSM – VP/President Elect
Is it fall already? While it still feels like summer, football season is about to “Kick-Off” and the baseball pennant races are in full
swing, so fall must be near. School bells are ringing and there will soon be that one morning when you walk out the door and get a whiff of that certain scent that tells you it is finally fall. Another sure sign of fall is the beginning of another ISM-NJ program year, and 2013 promises to be more informative and exciting than ever. Your Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and volunteer members have been hard at work planning new and innovative programs, seminars, events and educational opportunities to help keep our membership in the forefront of trends and changes in all aspects of Supply Chain Management. The Program Committee has lined up an extraordinary series of membership meetings that begin September 18th at the Bridgewater Marriott with our annual New Member Orientation and a panel discussion on renewable energy. On-line registration is now open for this event. October will feature a tour and meeting at the Duke Farms Orientation Center in Hillsborough (only 10 minutes from the Bridgewater Marriott). November brings a breakfast meeting at SHI International in Somerset that will include a tour of their Cloud Data Center. Also back by popular demand is the December meeting. Please see the ISM-NJ website for details and to sign up. The Pro-D Committee has planned an excellent slate of training offerings this year commencing September 20th with “Effective Confidentiality
Agreements.” CPSM Exam prep and other great course topics will be offered just about weekly throughout the fall. All info and registration is available at the ISM-NJ website under the Professional Development Quick-Link.Two highlights of the fall program are the Women & Leadership Conference and the ISM NY/NJ Forum Annual
Conference. This will be the 5th Annual Women & Leadership Conference and it will be held October 17th & 18th in Weehawken. It has become the preeminent forum in the tri-state area for issues that concern SCM leaders across industries and functions. The conference includes the presentation of the ISM-NJ Diamond Award for leadership and mentoring of women in a supply management role. The ISM NY/NJ Annual Conference will be held November 1st & 2nd at the Inn at Pocono Manor and will offer sessions on a variety of topics important to supply chain professionals on a regional level. It also offers networking opportunities beyond our own immediate area. Wow! That’s a lot of happenings and does not include the new Emerging Professionals Group or the Mentoring and Diversity Committees offerings. Fortunately, all of our activities are listed on our website, where you can sign up for one or all of them! Best yet, share the link with a non-member you work with or your supervisor and let them know what they are missing! I look forward to seeing all of you at an upcoming event. Enjoy the fall and all it has to offer!
