BC Transit has deployed the world’s first fleet of 20 fuel cell buses to be integrated into the regular operational service of an urban transit system.
The fleet is based in Whistler, BC, providing public transportation for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The hydrogen fuel cell electric buses, powered by Ballard’s heavy-duty fuel cell modules, produce zero tailpipe emissions and do not emit any air pollutants – their only emission being water vapour.
These buses will displace in excess of 1,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, contributing to BC’s overall plan to cut GHG emissions by 33% by 2020.
The ultimate goal of the project is to demonstrate the successful integration of hydrogen fuel cell buses into an urban transit system, allowing monitoring of operations, maintenance and fuelling over a sustained period.

BC Transit has deployed the world’s first fleet of 20 fuel cell buses to be integrated into the regular operational service of an urban transit system.
The fleet is based in Whistler, BC, providing public transportation for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The hydrogen fuel cell electric buses, powered by Ballard’s heavy-duty fuel cell modules, produce zero tailpipe emissions and do not emit any air pollutants – their only emission being water vapour.
These buses will displace in excess of 1,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, contributing to BC’s overall plan to cut GHG emissions by 33% by 2020.
The ultimate goal of the project is to demonstrate the successful integration of hydrogen fuel cell buses into an urban transit system, allowing monitoring of operations, maintenance and fuelling over a sustained period.

Lungpacer Medical, Inc. is developing a revolutionary therapy that improves the strength and health of the diaphragm muscle in critically ill, mechanically ventilated patients.
Ventilated patients are frequently unable to breathe naturally again because their diaphragm muscle has undergone rapid, profound atrophy while not in use.
Many patients fail to wean from the machine, leading to ventilator dependence, repeated re-infections, long and costly hospital stays, and greater probability of death.
The minimally invasive, intravenously placed Lungpacer electrodes activate the diaphragm in order to prevent its deterioration and speed up weaning from ventilators.
This therapy will save the lives of many critically ill patients, improve health outcomes, substantially reduce hospital care costs, and provide access to more patients requiring mechanical ventilation in crowded critical care facilities.
