A podcast is a digital audio file that can be downloaded onto a computer or portable media player. Typically, they are available as part of a series that can be subscribed to.

Publishing the podcast

In order to publish the audio as a podcast, it must be attached to a webpage at www.bbc.co.uk/programmes - here, every episode of your programme has a web page, and you also have a home page, known as a Brand or Series page.

If your podcast:

is a compilation from several programme episodes.

is edited highlights from a programme.

comes under a group heading (e.g. Drama of the Week, Friday Night Comedy).

is not related to a programme at all (e.g. BBC Academy, Ouch).

… then a special podcast Series page will be created for you.

All editions of that podcast will be attached to this Series page. Other podcasts will have their own Series page.

The R&M support team ([email protected]) will provide you with a code called a PID (Programme identifier), which represents the Series page. This is an example of a PID (yours will be different):

p00w1rdp In the dark blue bar at the top of the iBroadcast page, put your PID in to the Search box, and press Return, or click the magnifying glass icon.

You will be taken to the podcast Series page.

The panel at the top left shows the programme details, and the image shows an “S” for Series.

At the bottom of the left-hand column of the Series page, there is a drop-down box, Select a task. Move the mouse over it and choose Create and add podcast.

You can now upload the audio file. Locate the file on your computer, and drag it in to the grey “Upload an audio” box.

Once it’s uploaded, you will be taken through 7 steps to create the podcast.
