To some people this means tossing a round of Frisbee golf with him, to others, singing some camp songs together, or possibly even blobbing away your second free swim with him. Some of us wish we could take him everywhere we go – even when we are not at camp. Well why not? As we all prepare for National Camp Crestridge Day on December 1st, you have the next one week to hang out with Ron and bring him with you wherever you may go. In this newsletter you will find Ron’s glorious noggin on a tear out page. Cut out his head and prepare him for the world. If you go to the grocery store, take Ron. If you go to Disney World, take Ron. If you go the dentist, take Ron. Be creative. Ron is looking to you, campers and staff, to get him out there and let him see the world while hanging out with you. However, how will he know where he has gone or who he has spent time with without any proof? You must take a picture with him wherever you go! After you have a picture, email it to rscamps@ ridgecrestcamps.com or post it on our Facebook page! One camper from Crestridge, one camper from Ridgecrest, and one staffer will each win a $50 prize for the most original and creative picture! All submissions must be e-mailed or posted by midnight on December 2nd. Get ready to make some memories with Ron! WHERE’S RON? Well why not?

As we all prepare for National Camp Crestridge Day on December 1st, you have the next one week to hang out with Ron and bring him with you wherever you may go. WE DID IT! LET’S DO IT AGAIN! - A MESSAGE FROM ALUMNAE & FRIENDS

2 3

Camp Crestridge Alumnae & Friends appreciates so much the donations given by parents of campers and staffers that helped us complete the new Beehive. Without that help, we would have had to borrow funds to have it ready for summer 2012.

Now that this major project is finished, the CCAF board has chosen as our next project to build up our Scholarship Endowment Fund. A legacy for years to come, the principal of this fund provides annual interest toward scholarships for campers who would otherwise not be able to attend Crestridge. To help increase the invested principal, for the next two years, all

proceeds from sales of stepping stones and rocking chairs will be funneled into the Scholarship Endowment Fund.

When donations in honor or in memory of individuals reach $10,000, an endowed scholarship is named for that person. Currently, we have three completed endowed scholarships: in honor of camp friends Sallie Garvin Driggers and Willa Stevenson McGimsey; in memory of Judye MacMillan; and in memory of Maggie Lee Henson. Partial scholarships that have not yet reached the $10,000 level are in memory of Ginnie Burriss, in memory of Julie Parkerson, in memory of Lucille Belue (Janie’s mother), and in

honor of Ramey Driggers Schutz and Kara Belcher Cooley.

Of course, individual donations are also greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. If you wish to add to this living legacy, please send your check to CCAF, PO Box 22038, Lexington KY 40522-2038, or go to www.crestridgealumnae.com to donate through PayPal or to purchase a stepping stone or rocking chair for the Beehive porch.

CHEROKEE 26Something big is happening on Cherokee Hill this year! We are building a new Cherokee cabin which means that we will now have sixty Cherokee campers each session! That also means our maximum amount of campers each session is 260! The new location for this cabin will be just above Cherokee 21. Because we are adding a new cabin, we’ll have to change the numbers of the current cabins, 22-25. The new cabin will become Cherokee 22 which means, Cherokee 25 will become Cherokee 26. We are in the beginning stages of the process. We have completed the first step and received a permit to be able to build this cabin. We are currently meeting with the contractors to place the cabin in its official spot. Then we’ll be able to start clearing the landing to build. The Green and White (Crestridge Blog) will be updated with pictures and news about the progress!

The summer of 2012 was truly a great one at Camp Crestridge! We hope that you not only met new friends and learned new skills but that you also learned more about Christ through our summer theme, “The Well.” There are many wells in this life that we try to draw water from to sustain us in our daily lives. Some of these wells look like our friends, our schoolwork, or our popularity. Yet, there is only one well that will truly sustain and satisfy us. Our theme verse from this summer, Isaiah 12:2a-3, tells us who this one well is. It says, “Surely God is my salvation…With Joy you will draw water from the wells of

salvation.” God is the only Well we can draw from that will not leave us thirsty and longing for more. The decision of which well we are going to draw from is a daily choice, not just one we make at camp. Just as we physically require water to live, we need the living waters of Jesus in our lives every day. We know that home is very different from camp, but we hope that you remember what God taught you this summer about how deep and satisfying the waters of His Well are. Today, are you choosing to draw from a well that is only temporary or from the well that holds the living water that brings life?

We are so very proud of all of you who participated in the Belle Tapouts of 2012. *Candidates who successfully completed the test.

WEBSITE MAKEOVERAs you may have seen, we have a completely new look to our website. We were excited to get it up and going just after the summer. We wanted to let you know about some exciting things we added. You’ll want to check these out! First of all, we added a Staff Profile page. You can see pictures and profiles of the 2013 staff. We are constantly updating this page as we hire staff. Now you’ll know if your counselor is coming back this summer! Under the “Campers” section, you can find the Crestridge Songbook.

This has all the songs we sing at dinner and Campfire! If you’ve ever forgotten the words to your favorite song, you’ll now be able to find it on our website! We’ve also added a new page called “Fun Extras”. You can download a cool background picture for your computer or iPhone. You can also download Marva ringing the Wake-Up Bell and saying Good Morning. Download it to your phone and you can wake up to Marva singing every morning! We hope you enjoy these new additions!
