OFFICIAL 2013 Kona Bike Count

As nearly 2,000 of the world’s top Ironman athletes checked their bikes at Kailua Pier, dozens of triindustry players tallied bikes and components for the annual litmus test of buying trends. Theannual count gives the triathlon industry a scope of what the sport’s best athletes are buying and anidea of who will be the major players for the next few years.

After over five hours of counting, Cervelo once again dominated the count, but others are closing thegap.

Steve CarterMore than a Kona Bike Count, It would be more interesting, and useful, to have the KonaFlat Tire Count. I read that Ian Mickleson got a flat out of Hawi yesterday. I would like toknow what brand of tire flatted on him. The aggregate sum of most flats would be thebrand of tire to avoid. Ben Waite · · ButlerMark from Profile and I did the aerobar count. When counting, we gave precedence totouch points. So Profile attachment hardware/pads and a Vision basebar would becounted as Profile. If the hardware/pads were not recognizable, the extension brand wascounted. If that was not obvious, the basebar was counted. 99% of all the data is probablyof the attachment hardware/pads.
