Requirements: Project Management Professional
The PMI logo and PMP are trademarks of the Project Management Institute Inc. USA
• If you hold a bachelors degree:
– Minimum of three years professional project management experience
– 4,500 hours direct project management (leading & directing project tasks)
• Without a bachelors degree:
– Minimum of five years professional project management experience
– 7,500 hours direct project management (leading & directing project tasks)
• Additionally you must have:
– Have 35 hours of specific project management education
– Adhere to the PMI’s code of Ethics and Professional conduct
– Pass a four hour, 200 questions, multiple choice scenario-based examination that assesses your ability in project management
PMP® Exam Application Timeline
• Submit your application within 90 days of starting the process on pmi.org
1. Submit Application
• PMI will respond within 5 business days when submitted online. It may take much longer by mail. Incomplete or faxed applications will be rejected.
2. PMI Reviews Application
• You cannot schedule exam until payment submitted
3. Applicant Pays Exam Fees
• PMI states that Audit is random, the audit process takes 5 business days.
4. Audit Process
• After you receive your eligibility letter , you have up to 1 year to do the exam before it expires
5. Exam Eligibility 1 yr. from application approval
• 60 PDUs completed in 3 yrs. for recertification
6. Certification Cycle 3 yrs.
What You Will Need Before You Begin
1. Project management experience must be at least 4,500 hours. You must be managing projects for at least 3 consecutive years
2. Details of your involvement as a project manager in each project listed (maximum 500 characters).
3. Ensure your entire experience covers the 5 knowledge areas, which are – Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling and Closing.
4. Provide descriptions of your project management experience.
5. 35 Education contact hours. Name and location of training organisation

General Tips
• The start date of the first project and the end date of the last project should at least cover a period 3 years (degree holders) or 5 years (secondary degree holders) as required by the PMI.
• In order to prepare for an audit, contact your project supervisors/substitute and notify them on the hours you will claim for each project.

Tips For Calculating Experience Hours • Include only enough projects to reach the minimum number of
hours
• Include large projects first.
• Calculate the number of hours spent on each project management process groups:
– Initiating
– Planning
– Executing Controlling and Monitoring
– Closing
• Don’t fill in more than 40 hours for each week.

Prepare & Submit on-line application
Step 4: Review the PMGI/DPM PMP® Project Hours Calculator – Check the PMGI spreadsheet and ensure you have someone
who can verify the hours claimed.
Step 5: Prepare the on-line application
– Transfer information from the PMGI/DPM PMP® Project Hours Calculator to the online PMP® Online Application Form.
Step 6: Submit the on-line application
– Print a copy of your application for your records – Review and submit the Online PMP® Application Form.
Tips For Filling In The Form
• When adding details of project management experiences to the application form, you will need to: Give a title to each project (usually the project title)
• Give your project role (not your job title) – you can use PMI terms like project leader, project manager, project coordinator, etc.
• Insert your supervisor‘s name and contact methods (note that you need not fill in the name of the CEO of your company, but someone who work closely with you and you have gained the consent from).

Tips For Filling In The Form • Avoid amending and saving the project hours repeatedly on
the web server (calculate the hours offline using our experience hours calculator
• Write the project description of the project (in around 500 characters) including the following:
– a brief description of the project
– objectives
– key deliverables
– project outcome
– your personal role

Tips For Filling In The Form
• When composing the project descriptions for each project, make good use of PMI terms to demonstrate that you understand what project management is. Include terms found in the PMBOK® Guide like project charter, sponsor, scope, project deliverables, stakeholders, schedule, acceptance of deliverables and quality management.

Before You Submit
• Double check the information you have entered. You will be allowed to print a copy of your application for your record.
• Complete a PM course with us at PMGI before completing the PMP® application form. This will help you understand PMI’s perspectives.

Before You Submit
Finally, you will be required to agree to the Project Management Institute’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. Do not skip this step, please read the code.

After You have Submitted the Application
• In approximately 5 days PMI will carry out the “Application Completeness Review”.
• PMI will send you an approval email, asking you to pay for the PMP® Certification fee, if your application form is considered successful
Please pay upon receiving the response from PMI, because you may be audited

Preparing for Audit the PMP® Audit After paying, you may be selected for an audit:
• PMP® audit is selected on a random basis, you don’t know
whether you will be selected before settling the PMP® certification fee:
• Keep all supporting documents for your education, project management education as well as work experience together (supporting documents may include certificates, e-mails, project plans, meeting minutes or project charters). Do gather enough documents for each and every project you have submitted on your PMP® application form.
• Contact and seek endorsement from your supervisor/manager on the number of hours to be reported for each and every project on the application form so as to avoid an disagreements during the audit process.
