PMK Film Developer Information and Procedures Edward Stapel Developing Procedure: READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH THIS SECTION TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE WHOLE PROCESS PRIOR TO DEVELOPING YOUR FILM!!!! GLOVES MUST BE WORN FOR DEVELOPING SHEET FILM! 1. Prepare your developer IMMEDIATELY PRIOR to use – 1:2:100. 10ml part A + 20ml part B + 1000ml water = 1030ml working developer. Measure the amount of water, then add A and then B. The developer should change color from gray‐green to amber. If you see no color change, something is probably amiss. 1030ml will develop 8 sheets of 4x5 film. 2. Develop for the indicated time using the following agitation procedure. PMK developer requires frequent and vigorous agitation to prevent streaks from forming on the film. For sheet film: to develop a single sheet, immerse it in a tray of developer and agitate constantly, rocking the tray in all 4 directions, for 30 seconds. Then vigorously rock in one direction once or twice every 15 seconds. You should hear a solid “clack” sound as your film hits the side of the tray (some spilled developer in the sink is a good indicator of proper agitation). If developing more than one sheet at a time, carefully shuffle your sheets constantly through the development time. Using film hangers in open tanks is not recommended as it is rather difficult to give enough agitation and the film tends to end up with streaks. 3. After development is complete, Stop your film using a water bath. Using regular stop bath (which is acidic) will remove the desired “pyro” stain. 4. Fix your film for 6 minutes using Formulary TF‐4 Fixer. After fixing is complete, return fixer to its container. Using regular fixer (which is more acidic) will remove the desired “pyro” stain 5. After fixing, put your film back into the exhausted developer and soak film for two minutes, agitating every 30 seconds. This step induces the desired “pyro stain” that will make your prints soooo lovely. After this step you can discard your developer. 6. Do not use fixer remover. 7. Wash, PhotoFlo, and dry your film according to normal procedures. 8. Smile.
