myPMI-H NEWS SEPTEMBER 2012 Introducing Ram, PMI Houston’s new Director-at-Large for Outreach

Earlier this year, the PMI-H Board of Directors identified the need of expanding our Outreach program to increase the visibility of our chapter with local corporations, community, and academic organizations. “The outreach program was previously part of the chapter’s marketing function, however, due to its broader impact to the chapter, the PMI-H Board decided to create a director-at-large position, which would be solely focused in the outreach program” said Karen Duncan, PMI-H VP of Marketing. The month of August marked an interesting and welcome development for our Outreach Programs. We have a new leader for the Outreach arm of PMI-Houston. Ram Iyer is our newly appointed Director-at-Large for Outreach and will

spearhead the core mission of Outreach - to increase local visibility of the Chapter, seize opportunities to advance the project management profession, and to actively engage our membership in these initiatives. The mission of Outreach will be achieved by delivering successful initiatives across the three silos – Academic, Community and Corporate. Ram is currently employed with Hewlett-Packard where he leads the implementation of key programs and initiatives focused on improving the quality of products and processes. He has a diverse set of experiences across the value chain ranging from Industrial engineering, Process Re-engineering, ERP implementation program management, Product Data Management, New Product Introductions, Quality PMO and People Management. Ram has a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering, a Master of Business Administration and is also a Project Management Professional (PMP). Ram believes that Outreach is a powerful way for PMI-Houston to “make a difference”. By becoming more visible across the three building blocks of corporate, community and academic; we not only create a positive branding for PMI but also drive home the fundamental knowledge or project and/or program management best practices. “We are very pleased to have Ram joining our team. Ram is bringing new ideas to the board and I am certain that the results of his contributions will be seen in the next few months”, said Rita Barrantes, PMI-H VP of Communications. We welcome Ram to the PMI-Houston Chapter Board and look forward to working closely with him in the coming months.

myPMI-H NEWS - Announcements SEPTEMBER 2012

Bushra Khokhar was selected as the PMIH Volunteer of the 2nd Quarter Award because she was instrumental in helping prepare the Chapter of the Year (COY) award for 2012. As part of her role:

• She participated in numerous conference calls and meetings to review progress. • She prepared Board of Director communications, sent them out and followed up with

each Director to gain the appropriate information. • She reviewed and analyzed all COY input for accuracy and appropriateness. • She helped finalize the COY submission with time to spare for a final review. • She was able to accomplish this with a busy schedule and positive attitude. Her availability and willingness to work on a very large and diverse project dealing with the upper level management of PMIH chapter was outstanding; she did it with professionalism, a true example of the fine qualities of a great volunteer. PMI Houston Chapter shows our appreciation by selecting Tammy Hong as our Volunteer of the 2nd Quarter.
