Plowshares Advocate “That no one in our community go hungry…” September 2017 Vol. 34, No. 9
Plowshares Tuesday Volunteers! This month’s featured superheroes:
Tuesday cooks: Belle Hicks, Janet, John Sullivan, Lyn Jungwirth, Tiffany Haydon, Nichole Haydon, Robin Haydon,
and Dee Lavelle.
Tuesday servers: Marie Brodie, Carol Ann Hulsmann, Ron & Francine Selim, Shirley Valentini, Karen
Christopherson, Clara Lehman, Deborah Johnson, Bob Rogers, Sharon Gorman, Maureen Borden, and Celia Ramirez.
MOW: B.J. Swaney, Ron & Ruth Hensell, George Artemoff, Bob & June Twelves, Doris & David Bills, Maureen
Borden, Lloyd Gerboth, Don Damp.
From 2 weeks to nearly 30 years, these Tuesday volunteers have been supporting the Plowshare’s mission “That no
one in our community go hungry”. Due to the large number of volunteers, we may have inadvertently left someone
out. Please let us know if this is the case and we will include you next time.
One of the greatest gifts is your time, we are currently recruiting for Friday cooks!
Special thank you to the family of Eloise Grothe who donated a brand new microwave from Pardini
Appliance in her memory. They would like to recognize Meals On Wheels’ volunteers
Roger Vincent & Julie Sawyer for being there for Eloise.

The Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon was held on August 5th in the Plowshares’ Dining Room. We honored
our many dedicated volunteers with a catered lunch, drinks and dessert. The Friday Enchilada cooking crew re-
ceived the Golden Spoon Award, B.J. Swaney was MOW’s volunteer of the year, Don Damp was volunteer of the
year and Maureen Borden received a special award for going above and beyond to help us with all aspects of the
operations at Plowshares. We held a special celebration for Rhonda De Los Santos’s 20th Anniversary as opera-
tions Manager at Plowshares. She received a rousing standing ovation from all who attended.
“The moon would on occasion try to usurp the sun’s majesty (mouse rides on tiger tail, no blame)
Although the sun never says to the moon ‘You owe me’, as if it were a job he is doing that he should complain.”
