Setting up Your New CAV Program Apple Computer 1. Plug in computer with ac adapter – computer MUST stay plugged in until software configuration is complete. 2. Start computer. 3. Select country and click continue. 4. Select keyboard and click continue. 5. Connect to a network. On Grounds, connect to “Welcome to UVa Wireless” . If Off-Grounds, connect to a wireless network. (IMPORTANT: You MUST be connected to the internet for the software configuration to work.) 6. System will indicate that the computer is managed by UVa. Click continue. 7. Read and agree to the Terms & Conditions. 8. Create login name and password. Click Continue. 9. Click checkbox to Set time zone automatically and click Turn on Location Services in pop-up box. Click continue. 10. System will create an account and log into desktop. (IMPORTANT: Do not open any applications or files. Software configuration will begin within a minute of startup.) 11. Once installation is complete, system will automatically restart itself. This installation process will take approximately 10-30 minutes, depending on speed of internet connection. There will be a Message displayed across the entire Screen during this time. When complete, you will see a login screen. Login to continue. Getting Connected to the UVA Network 1. Once your system restarts you will see the Network Setup Tool open on your desktop 2. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and install your digital certificate 3. Once the digital certificate is installed you will be connected to the UVA wireless network To Install Microsoft Office 1. From the menu bar, select Go and then Applications. 2. Double click on Self Service 3. In the left hand column, click on Download MS Office. 4. This will open a browser window to download Office and your product key. Follow on screen instructions. To Setup Your UVA Box Account and Box Sync Get Your UVa Box Account Just go to http://virginia.box.com. Click Continue, and log into NetBadge as you usually do. After successfully logging in, your UVa Box account will be created and is ready to use! You now have 1 TB of storage space “in the cloud.” Setup Box Sync to Keep Your Files Synchronized Ensure the files stored locally on your computer stay automatically synched with the ones stored online, and have Box appear as another “drive” or folder on your computer which you can save files to. To install Sync: 1. Click on the “Applications” Folder or Click on the Rocket icon in the dock. 2. Locate the BOX icon and double click on it. 3. Click on Single Sign On and then enter your uva email address a. Authenticate for first-time setup. i. Your computing [email protected]. ii. Sync app will open a UVa NetBadge login screen 4. With Sync now setup, you can easily save files on your computer into Box and you’ll no longer need to log into the Box Web interface to access your files. Setup Apple Pay, Siri, and Touch ID If you would like to set up Apple Pay, Siri, Touch ID, and your iCloud account. Click on the System Preferences Icon in the Dock (looks like a gear) and select the appropriate item that you would like to setup. What is the silver sticker? Each CAV (Computing At Virginia) computer has a silver sticker on the bottom of the computer, similar to the image on the left. Setting up Your New CAV Program Apple Computer
