DO NOT run the pump too quickly:

    • Recommended 1500 rpm• Maximum 1750 rpm

Depending on the truck type, maximum speed may be limited automati-cally by the engine management system.

NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE WHEN THE PTO IS ENGAGED

When an operation with a container is finished, the PTO must bedisengaged until the next operation, even if it is in the sameloading area.

    SAFETY INTERLOCK CHECKS

The Edbro Rolatip can contain up to four non-contacting proximitysensors depending on the model type.

Over-riding a proximity sensor could cause unexpected move-ment during an operation and result in extensive damage to theequipment.

The proximity sensors are installed primarily to prevent mis-use.They should not be tampered with.

Annual checks should be carried to your equipment to ensure all sensorsare working correctly. The following charts identify which proximityswitches have been installed for which model and operational functiontogether with the check routine.

    BEFORE STARTING WORK

Where equipment height including the bin exceeds 3.0 m aboveground level, it is the operators responsibility to ensure that awarning label is present in the cab. (This label must show theoverall height in feet and inches and with 40 mm high numerals).

The user must check that the equipment and bins can be oper-ated safely. For example, any damage to fabricated parts, wear-ing of hoses or leaks from fittings on pipes should be reported tothe relevant authority. The operator must ensure that no one canuse the equipment until safe use can be guaranteed.

Check tyre pressures, oil and water levels, mirrors.

Check that the air pressure exceeds 60 psi (4 bar).

Where fitted, check that the bogie blocking cylinders are re-tracted.

In very cold conditions, check that the equipment is functioningproperly before starting work.

With high loads, and especially with a high centre of gravity load, beware of the stability risk when driving.

    CHECK SITE CONDITIONS

Ensure that the operating area around the equipment is free ofpeople, animals and property when operating. Never allowanyone to go underneath the container during operation.

    37

    ANNUAL MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

When an operating cycle is complete, to avoid overheating thehydraulics, release the control lever.

During operation the driver must remain at the controls of thevehicle and equipment at all times. If he must leave the cab thePTO must be disengaged, the handbrake must be applied and allcontrols released. If the vehicle is to be left for some time, switchthe engine off and remove the keys.

The operator should be suitably dressed when using this equip-ment. Protective boots, gloves and hard hat are a minimumrequirement.

Check that the container in use conforms to the specification forthis equipment.

Check that the load in the container is adequately tied down andevenly distributed and adequately sheeted.

Always drive with the hook in the forward position and the bindown on the subframe.

Check that your container is restrained and the rear doors areshut and locked. Where body locks are fitted, make sure theseare on.

No one should be allowed to climb onto the equipment when inoperation in service or during maintenance.

When sheeting or unsheeting a loaded bin, it is preferable to doso when the bin is on the ground. If this is not possible, accessequipment would be required to reach high bins unless a me-chanical sheeting system is provided.

Where a trailer coupling is fitted, always ensure that it is workingsatisfactorily and not excessively worn or damaged. When the trailer is attached the coupling must be fully locked.

NOISEDepending on the specification of the equipment, typical in-cabnoise levels can exceed 80 dBA. Noise levels outside thevehicle can reach 90 dBA. If subject to this noise for an ex-tended period ear defenders are recommended.

With reference to the diagram on the following page, lubricate as fol-lows:

    With a grease gun

the cylinder and piston rod eye end bearings (4 grease nipples)

the arm articulation (2 grease nipples)

the rear articulation (2 grease nipples)

    TO PICK UP A CONTAINER

    • Position the truck to the approximate container pick up area.

    • If manual body locks are fitted, ensure that they are open.

    • Apply the handbrake and engage PTO.

    • If applicable, lower the bogie blocking cylinders. A warning buzzerwill sound.

    • Retract the jib completely by operating jib-back lever.

Make sure that the jib is fully retracted in order to release thesafety locks.

    • Operate body-off lever to move the hook to the rear of the vehicle.

If both sections of the arm lift together, the safety locks have notdisengaged. Lower the arm and ensure that the jib is fully re-tracted. Then try again.

    YEARLY OR EVERY 2000 OPERATIONS

Change the oil every 2,000 operations or once a year, just before winter.(For oil specification refer to page 41)

    • With all cylinders retracted and the pump stopped, drain the tank, replace the return line filter and refill with fresh oil according to thespecification.

    • Disconnect the return line to the tank and place in a suitable con-tainer to collect the waste oil.

    • To clear the pump of old oil, run the pump, extending all the cylinders in sequence, topping up the oil level as necessary. Immediatelystop the pump when this is complete.

    • Reconnect the return line to the tank. Run the pump, operating allthe cylinders in order to bleed the system. When all cylinders arefully extended, i.e. full tip position, check the oil level again. Adjust asnecessary to bring the oil level between the two marks on the dip-stick.

NEVER RUN A PUMP WITHOUT OIL

    • Change the air breather filter set on the oil tank return filter.

    • Operate the body-on lever (chassis will roll back under the con-tainer).

    • At this point steer the chassis under the container making sure thatthe container subframe rails are aligned with the rear rollers.

    • When the container leaves the ground apply the hand brake.

    • Continue until the container contacts the equipment subframe.

    • Release the control lever.

Ensure that the jib remains fully retracted throughout.

If the load is lifted only a short distance and stops, it is likely thatthe maximum lifting capacity has been exceeded. Check yourload.

If the front axles lift off the ground as the bin leaves the ground, the stability limit has been exceeded. Where fitted, ensure thatbogie blocking cylinders are in use, and ensure that the maximumload is not exceeded.

If, when lifting there is a tendency to slip or lean sideways or thevehicle is prevented from rolling backwards, release the lever, disengage the PTO, and pull forward SLOWLY to achieve abetter situation. Then re-engage the PTO and continue.

    • Operate the jib-forward lever to move the jib as far as it will go.

    • Disengage the PTO.

    EVERY 3 MONTHS

Check for free movement of the FRAME LOCKING HOOKS and lubri-cate as necessary, using the following procedure and referring to theattached drawing.

    1. With the bin removed, retract the jib fully and observe that just beforefull retraction the locking hooks open.

    2. Extend the jib and observe whether the hooks close positively ontothe rear frame section. Ensure that the hook is fully latched onto theframe as shown.

    3. If the hooks are sluggish or remain partly open, they will need to belubricated.

    4. Fully retract the jib and position the hook over the rear of the vehiclein the pick-up position. Put a chock underneath the rear frame forextra security. (see page 31)

    5. Locate the proximity sensor alongside the normal jib position (seesketch). Tape a small metal plate over the sensor. This will allow thejib to be extended. Extend the jib a few inches to allow the latches torelax.

    6. Remove the tension springs from the latch levers and test the leversfor free movement. Use penetrating oil to free them up and thenliberally coat in oil to lubricate. Finally wipe off the excess oil andsmear in grease to protect from the elements.

    7. Replace the springs and retract the jib fully.

    8. Remove the plate from the sensor and confirm that the latchesoperate normally.

    9. Continue to grease monthly.

    • Operate body-off lever until the container just touches the ground.

    • Then release the hand brake and continue to lower the container.

    • Allow the vehicle to roll forward and steer straight until the con-tainer is on the ground.

    • Apply the handbrake.

If both sections of the arm lift together, the safety hooks have notdisengaged.Lower the arm and ensure that the jib is fully retracted.

If the vehicle is prevented from moving or the brakes have beenleft on and the bin cannot roll, the tipping frame will prematurelylift off the subframe. If allowed to continue this can damage theequipment. Ensure that the brakes are off and if necessaryreverse the lever to lower the arm, disengage the PTO, andreposition the vehicle.

The jib must remain fully retracted throughout.

    • Operate body-off lever until the hook opening is in line with the hookbar.

    • Disengage PTO.

    • Drive clear of the container.

    • Apply the hand brake.

    HEALTH & SAFETY DURING MAINTENANCE

To minimise the risk of accidents and injury it is essential to adopt safepractices during the repair of this equipment.

Edbro recommend that for all servicing the hook is parked in the lift-onposition as shown below.

For additional security a suitable wooden or metal beam should bewedged between the rear tipping frame and the subframe.

If the arm is left in the tipped position, a BODY PROP MUST BE FIT-TED.This must be placed between the subframe and the rear section of thetipping frame. An Edbro prop (part no. BWA 1086) is available andshould be installed as below.

Full width metal or wooden beam

Take great care when tipping to ensure that the vehicle is stable. If at any point the vehicle starts to lean over, quickly lower thebody and reposition the vehicle to a better site.

SPECIAL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FORSTATIC CELL LOAD WEIGHING

This load weighing system is for guidance purposess only.It cannot be guaranteed to prevent overloading nor can it be usedfor invoicing purposes unless agreed specifically with thecustomer.

When jibbing back with a rear end heavy bin, care must be takennot to back too far otherwise the bin may have a tendancy to tipbackwards causing an incorrect load reading.

If unusual or unexpected readings are seen on the display, theoperator should inspect the bin and/or loader to ensure that thebin is clearly in contact with the load cells.

TO RECORD THE WEIGHT OF A CONTAINER USING STATIC CELLLOAD WEIGH SYSTEM

    • (XL) Open the body cross locks.

    • Operate jib-back lever to move the hook to the rear of the vehicle, forapproximately 600 mm.The jib is marked with a white line painted on the bottom. This area will have to be lined up with the corresponding white lineon the front crossmember of the main subframe. When this area is reached stop the jib back movement. The main arm will then have to be 'powered-down' to ensure that thehook is well clear of the bale-bar thus avoiding any mis readings.
