Dear Families, We have such an outstanding summer packed with stimulating activities, field trips, explorations and tons of fun. We are excited your child will be joining us and encourage you to read through this packet containing important information. Please refer to the calendar, permission slip and FAQ’s that will help you plan accordingly for your child. On the first day of summer in addition to all your completed permission slips, your child should have with him/her a swimsuit, towel, book, water bottle and appropriate shoes. All belongings should be labeled with his/her name on them, as sometimes children forget which items are theirs! Also, at all times, your child should be wearing closed tennis shoes or other proper play shoes. Flip flops, crocs, jellies, and other forms of open-toed shoes are only permitted when swimming or water related activities are going on. Otherwise, children must wear gym shoes and socks at all times.

Sunscreen will be provided by Minneapolis Kids throughout the day. You should always com-plete an initial application of sunscreen at home before bringing your child to Lyndale. If your child has any allergies to sunscreen please let the Site Coordinators know.

Please contact Carrie Miller, Jonathan Doten, or Vickie Hyatt with any further questions. We are more than willing to help you in any way possible and look forward to a long-lasting relationship between your family and Minneapolis Kids.

We are ready for summer fun!

Warm Regards, Carrie Miller (Whittier), Jonathan Doten (Lyndale), Vickie Hyatt (Bryn Mawr) Summer Site Coordinators

In order to promote a safe, stimulating environment for all children and staff, each site will have guidelines that include Minneapolis Kids behavior expectations. The Minneapolis Kids policies on discipline are consistent with the Minneapolis Public Schools Discipline Policy. Choices and freedoms will be offered to your child throughout the summer. Accompanying them will be some responsibilities and expectations. Any serious inappropriate behavior will be reported to the parents. If inappropriate behavior continues, a conference with the parent will be scheduled. If any child needs continued behavior re-direction or threatens the safety of others, further action may be taken including possible suspension from the program.

BEHAVIOR

If your child is prescribed medication that must be administered during Minneapolis Kids hours, a physi-

cian or dentist must provide written instructions to Minneapolis Kids. There must also be written permis-

sion from the parents to administer the medication. Medication must be in the original container, prop-

erly labeled with the child’s name, date, amount, and frequency of dosage. This procedure is also appli-

cable to “over the counter” medication.

When first aid is administered to your child you will be notified.

Children will be expected to bring a lunch and beverage every day, except when noted on the

calendar. Please pack the lunch in an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack. Note: Please do not

bring food that needs to be heated in a microwave or stored in a refrigerator.

* A COMPLETELY DISPOSABLE BAG LUNCH IS REQUIRED ON ALL FIELD TRIP DAYS!

FAQS

FIELD TRIPS

All permission slips and forms need to be filled out before your child/ren is able to attend a field trip. Please return all permission slips to the Site Coordinators by Thursday, June 12, 2014. Children MUST be on site at least 30 minutes

prior to field trip departure. During this time,

we meet with all children to go over the field

sure all details are covered, hand out swim

shirts, and apply sunscreen. It is CRITICAL that

Swim suit and towel should be sent with your

child/ren DAILY for impromptu water fun.

Minneapolis Kids will provide a swim shirt and a t-

shirt that ALL children need to wear on every

swim trip/field trip. Swim shirts are NOT to go

home. They will be returned to staff after each

use, washed, and be given out before the next

field trip.

We have specific times throughout the day where

we insist children apply sunscreen.

Site Coordinators

I have been with Minneapolis Kids for 10 years a child care assistant and most

recently, was hired as the new site coordinator for Lyndale. I am so happy to be

a part of working with kids, engaging their interests and helping them grow!

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Global Studies from the University of Minnesota

and a Master’s Degree in Public and Non-Profit Administration from Metropoli-

tan State University. In my spare time I enjoy exercising, walking and playing

with my Siberian husky and playing the latest and greatest new games! I look

forward to a fun summer of exploring new interests, visiting new and interesting

places and meeting new friends!

This is my first year as a Site Coordinator for Minneapolis Kids, but I have had a relationship with the program for many years. I’m very excited to be a part of the whole process. I have worked as a preschool teacher for Minneapolis Public Schools for over

20 years, and look forward to may more with our Minneapolis Kids families.

I was fortunate to join the Minneapolis Kids team in August, 2011. Being a Site Coordinator for such an amazing program allows me to build strong relationships and bonds with children, parents, and the entire school community. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education, with an empha-sis on Child, Family, and Community Development. In my spare time you can find me enjoying live music and theater, and organizing events and fundraisers for nonprofit organizations.

I am really excited about our summer program 2013 here at Whittier and can’t wait to be a part of making new memories for your child.
