October 2019 Pleasant News From the Administrator In our last newsletter, I mentioned that we were preparing for our community wide disaster drill. This drill was completed on Sept. 5. We learned a lot about our systems that prepare us for an emergency as we have this type of a boots on the ground experience. We thank all who helped us make this a valuable and realistic experience. We especially thank our local Inman Fire Department that played an integral part in the exercise. Neal Schierling, Fire Chief, and his crew really know their stuff when it comes to emergency response. We also thank our staff for their participation and our volunteers who played the part of casualties and wounded. We are excited to announce that we just completed our annual KDADS inspection and we had great results. We only had one minor deficiency noted by the state surveyors. The rules, regu- lations and requirements become more complicated every year, and it takes a great team to reach this level of expertise. Con- grats to all staff as their efforts have made a difference, all year long. We said good-bye to our Social Worker, Jason Herndon, as he leaves to try new experiences in the world of social services. We welcome Katie South from McPherson as our new licensed Social Worker. Katie comes to us with an understanding of the medical community and the needs of the elderly and we are excited to have her join our team. Katie South [email protected]

Hello Everyone I wanted to introduce myself, I am Katie South the new Social Ser-vices Director or an easier way to introduce myself is I am the new Jason. I am excited to be here and be a part of the Pleasant View Home fam-ily. I am very aware I have big shoes to fill and hope I can make half the impact Jason did with the residents and staff. This is my first ex-perience working in long term care so please don’t hesitate to help guide me along the way. Now to learn a little bit about me. I am originally from northeast Kansas where I grew up on a farm with my parents and two older brothers. I moved to McPherson about eleven years ago and have enjoyed learning about this area and making it my home. I have a six year old little boy who is the light of my life. He keeps me busy with school activities and his sports. He is currently enjoying flag foot-ball. When I am not at my sons activities or work I enjoy spending time at home relaxing and enjoying time with my son and our corgi dog. I also enjoy going on an occasional run. I am an avid K-State fan and love going to KSU football games. So far this season is going better than expected and I hope it continues. GO CATS! I attended K-State and earned my bachelor’s degree in Family Studies and Human Services. After that I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do so with some guidance from one of my professors I decided to go on to graduate school. I received my masters in social work from Washburn University. After completing my degree I went to work for the Department for Children and Families as a social work-er. From there I moved on to McPherson Hospital as their social worker/discharge planner. I enjoyed working at both of these places and they taught me so much. Now I am on to a new adventure work-ing here at Pleasant View where I hope to learn and grow even more. I look forward to getting to know everyone and working with everyone in order to provide the best care for our residents.

WALNUT COURT

We have had a busy month with going to the

fair, doing crafts and going on our trips. The

Weather was very nice at the fair, there was no

rain which was a blessing and not too hot. We

have made some fall wreaths with paper plates.

They were a lot of fun to make. If any body has

any craft ideals please let us know or come help

us out. We also went to Lindsborg KS to shop at

the thrift store . We found a lot of good buys and

we all had a lot of fun. We stopped for supper on

our way home. We were all back home by 8pm

and just in time for bed. Wow, what full day we

had.

Plaza Family

MaKenzie Regier [email protected]

Yay! Fall is finally here! We are excited for the beautiful leaves and all the fall festivities to come. September was another great month for us at Plaza. Some of our residents got the opportunity to go to the Kansas State Fair. We had a blast playing games, seeing the buildings, and eating all the delicious food they had to offer. In September we welcomed a new member to our Plaza family. Kalea Minor, one of our staff members, had her baby, Sylis James. All the residents were so excited to finally meet him. Welcome Sylis. We celebrated Mark Wyatt’s birthday September 14. We have several more to celebrate this month. Glenn Carey celebrates his birthday October 1st, Connie White’s birthday is October 7th, and Josephine Willems on Halloween, October 31st. Plaza is very excited for some Fall and Halloween festiv-ities. We will be painting pumpkins, painting fall leaves onto a canvas, and also painting our own pumpkins on-to a canvas. On Halloween we will show our spirit by dressing up and having our little Halloween party and photo booth. As always if you have any questions or concerns feel free to call or email me anytime.

Heritage Inn Hello Residents and staff! Its finally Fall! We had a lot of fun activities go this month. Enjoyed beautiful weather for our State Fair trip. Celebrated Grandparents Day with a Ice Cream Sundaes and enjoyed doing fun crafts and the nice weather. We lose a member of our family. Doris Par-sons went to be with the Lord on Sep-tember 14th. She will be greatly missed.

HAPPY FALL EVERYONE!!!

This month has been a busy and fun month. We have a stretching good time in our Exercise class Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. We are planning on adding a Dance/Movement Exer-cise class a couple times a week to see how many may be interest-ed. Our watermelon feed was a big success. We had close to 50 people show up and enjoy the great watermelon (from Dillon's) & crullers (thanks to Pam & Darrel Thiessen). Had lots of watermel-on to take home. We had the pleasure of attending the Music Fest at Elyria Christian School. Ernie Haase and the Signature Sound and Liberty were the featured guests. Jean Nienke got to meet Ernie and share a hug. What a Special Night! For our Second Tuesday Program we will be having “Hearts 4 Him” share their special music with us. Come and enjoy, snacks will be provided afterwards. We plan on having our annual Halloween Party on the 31st. Be sure to wear a costume! We have several bus trips planned, Walmart, Lindsborg, Hutch, and Pumpkin Patch.

God Bless You, Until next time, Brenda Goering Life Enrichment Coordinator

HARVEST HOUSE WHAT A MONTH!!!... busy September took us to the fair with Walnut Court!

Congratulations!

to our dear

Marcelyn Wittorff!

She received 4H recognition for her and her husband’s many years of ser-vices to the 4H club.

Mr. Emmett turned 11 on the 17th!

So...yes of course we had a party. Party hats, puppy chow, dog cake, and toilet water (lemonade) made Em-mett’s day complete.
