Ed Asner in FDR
Ed Asner in FDRSat, October 9, 2010 • 8 pm
Bringing to life one of America’s most beloved and infl uential presidents, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, FDR explores the events and decisions that shaped a nation. FDR is based on the play Sunrise at Campobello by Dore Schary, which was originally produced on Broadway and ran 556 performances — one of the longest running plays of all time.
Ed Asner’s prolifi c and much honored acting career demonstrates a consummate ability to transcend the line between comedy and drama. Perhaps best known for his portrayal of the gruff but soft-hearted journalist Lou Grant on the landmark comedy The Mary Tyler Moore Show, the role earned him fi ve Emmys and three Golden Globe Awards.
One of the most honored actors in the history of television, Edward Asner is the recipient of seven Emmy Awards and 16 nominations, as well as fi ve Golden Globe Awards. He served as National President of the Screen Actors Guild for two terms and was inducted into the TV Academy Hall of Fame in 1996. In March 2002, Asner was honored by The Screen Actors Guild as the 38th recipient of the prestigious Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment, presented annually to an actor who fosters the highest ideals of the profession.

The Assads’ personal repertoire includes original music composed by Sérgio Assad and his re-workings of folk, Latin and jazz music. Their standard classical repertoire includes transcriptions of the great Baroque keyboard literature of Bach, Rameau and Scarlatti and adaptations of works by such diverse fi gures as Gershwin, Ginastera and Debussy.
